We are incredibly proud to celebrate Margo, who was our very first Hageman Scholar! Margo was awarded the inaugural Joseph Hageman Memorial Nursing Scholarship in 2007 while attending East Carolina University, where she was pursuing her BSN. Years later, Margo's journey came full circle when she received a second Hageman Scholarship as a CarolinaEast employee, continuing her education toward an advanced nursing degree.

Margo's story reflects the very heart of what the Hageman Scholarship was created to support: a lifelong commitment to compassionate care and growth in the nursing profession.

Margo, it has been an honor to walk alongside you on your journey. We are so proud of you and all that you continue to accomplish!

Margo Waters, FNP, is putting her heart into the community she’s always called home. A New Bern native, she started at CarolinaEast in 2007 as a Nursing Assistant and has grown with us ever since - earning her RN from ECU, completing her FNP/MSN at Duke, and joining our Gastroenterology team as a Nurse Practitioner in 2018.

She cares for the full spectrum of GI concerns including reflux, abdominal pain, IBD, liver issues, and colorectal cancer screening. Her approach is grounded in compassion: “If you’ve got a problem, you won’t face it alone. We’ll walk through it together.”

During Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, Margo is especially passionate about prevention. Colonoscopies don’t just find cancer, they prevent it by removing precancerous polyps. Her message is simple and powerful: “Get your colonoscopy. Skip the shortcuts and choose the gold standard. It could save your life.”

Outside the clinic, Margo loves life in Eastern North Carolina - boating, beach days, sunshine, and time with her husband, two kids, and her poodle, Josie. What drives her most is helping patients take control of their health early, before small concerns become big challenges.

A true hometown provider making a real difference!
