United Way of Coastal Carolina nominated Promise Place for a Spirit of North Carolina Award this year- and we won! This Award is given annually by the United Way of North Carolina to businesses and organizations that show exemplary and exciting ways of working with the United Ways in their communities.

Local United Ways continue to highly value the opportunity to recognize and honor the hard work of their companies at a statewide level. This includes campaign efforts, community impact and volunteer leadership, DEI integration in mission and core values, and more. The United Way of NC Board remains resolute in their desire to celebrate, on a statewide level, companies who have excelled in their efforts to meet community need and have demonstrated exemplary leadership and Spirit.

To date, Promise Place has gifted Craven, Pamlico, and Jones counties with 1.2 million lbs. of food. We have served nearly 500 children, teens, and adults affected by trauma, s*xual assault, and crime within the year. We have continued to serve our community in the last year with nearly $26,000 in utility assistance. Additionally, we have provided 100's of CARTS passes for individuals with transportation barriers. It is our honor to serve our community by providing no cost trauma therapy, victim centered advocacy, prevention, outreach, and education.

For the dedicated staff at Promise Place, our efforts were just "another day in the office", we will always strive to do the right thing for individuals in need because the staff is passionate about a path to healing.

Do you know what today, Jan 11 is? Its National Human Trafficking Awareness day, and we have something to say.

Beginning in 2010, by Presidential Proclamation, each January has been designated National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month. Following the start of National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month, with the help of non-government organizations, National Human Trafficking Day began and is observed annually on January 11th.

In recognition of this important day, and throughout the month of January, this day is celebrated nationally, and globally, by special events, awareness campaigns, and educational activities.

On this day, Promise Place chose to wear blue for and take a stand against trafficking. We will not tolerate child trafficking, s*x trafficking, nor will we tolerate labor trafficking. We will not tolerate any form of trafficking. We support our clients who have been affected by this directly, our clients who have lost loved ones to this violence, and we support our community partners True Justice International fighting against this cause along side us.

Join us! Educate yourself. Know the signs. Start the talk. Take a stand. If you are interested in a free child friendly curriculum, Promise Place has Nationally recognized educational resources we would be happy to share or present to children ages 6-13. You may email [email protected] for more information. We also have additional educational opportunities for teens and adults at no cost for your PTA, group, business or school. Its only a click or call away to educate yourself, or get help if you need it.
