Can we tell you the story of the "Happy Pill?" In 2023 we did a wig fitting for a tremendously warm, caring and wonderful woman named Sue who left us with some "happy pills," which are plush pills that giggle hilariously when you squeeze their bellies. She wanted to brighten the days of others who would sit in our chair when experiencing hair loss due to chemo.
Fast forward to last week Thursday at our ribbon cutting. That same wonderful woman came to see us out of the blue -- 3 years later -- to return the wig that she gratefully no longer needs, share a hug and to deliver a few more "happy pills."
Fast forward again to today when we had our very first wig appointment for a child. As I thought about what we could have in our room that would be appropriate for a young girl, the first thing I saw was the "happy pill." When I gave it to her she pressed the button, had a good giggle with her sister, and that "happy pill" now has a new home after doing what it was designed to do -- bring a smile when someone needs one most.
Coincidence? I think not. These are the everyday miracles that happen here. Our thanks to you, Sue (Cancer Smiles of Watertown), and everyone who shares love, generosity, kindness and encouragement to make these stories of hope possible.
May God bless this family and all who are on the journey toward healing.
