Call for volunteers! With the flowers blooming and the birds singing, what a perfect time of year to be at Haskell Gardens! Here is the link to learn more and sign up to volunteer for the new free Lunch & Learn series occurring Monday-Friday at 12pm-2pm from 7/2-8/21: The Trustees of Reservations | Education Volunteer - Haskell Gardens Lunch & Learn

Each day will be fun and unique! Here is a tentative outline of our weekly schedule:
-Monday: Nature Art
-Tuesday: Hands-on exploration (ex: bug hunts, geology, plant ID, birding, etc)
-Wednesday: Nature Play and Learn
-Thursday: Storytelling
-Friday: Gardening

Can you or someone you know talk about plants all day? Or find insects and arachnids simply fascinating? Or own bags and buckets of rocks (like me)? Then please come celebrate your passions with youth and families in the community, and share this opportunity with your like-minded nature lovers!

A huge THANK YOU to our incredible volunteers, Fine Gardening staff, and Stewardship staff! 🌿💚
From weeding garden beds and mulching the newly planted trees from last fall to mowing and maintaining the grounds, your hard work, care, and dedication help keep the garden thriving and beautiful for everyone to enjoy.
We’re so grateful for the time, energy, and passion each of you brings to this space. It’s always rewarding — and fun — to come together in community to care for the garden and connect with one another. 🌱

Once a place of growth and light, these glass greenhouses—built in the 1950s—have quietly carried a more complicated legacy. Over time, hazardous asbestos materials made their way into the structures, and today, an important chapter is underway: careful abatement to make the site safe again.

But this isn’t just about removal—it’s about renewal.

We’re beginning a phased transformation of the site into a designed “ruined garden”: a landscape that embraces history while reimagining its future. Think fragments of structure intertwined with new plantings, paths that invite exploration, and spaces that feel both reclaimed and intentional.

This project honors what was, while creating something entirely new—where decay becomes design, and the past is not erased, but reshaped for our community.

Swipe through to see where we are now, and a glimpse of what’s ahead.

Many GCA scholars continue their ties with GCA long after their student years. Such is the case of Kristin McCullin, Senior Horticulturist for the Trustees, a land conservancy of roughly 47,000 acres. McCullin recently led members of the Chestnut Hill Garden Club on a tour of the Trustees’ Allen Haskell Public Gardens in New Bedford, Massachusetts. It was a full circle moment as Kristin was a 2006 recipient of The Garden Club of America and the Royal Horticultural Society Interchange Fellowship .
