The Winner of our National Bad Poetry Day contest 2026 is, once again, Melanie Ducharme! I think this is Mel's third win, and this year's entry is pretty bad. Congratulations, Melanie. The prize is ordered and should be here very soon.

Honorable mention goes to Bev Jackson, who couldn't write an actual "bad" poem if her life depended on it. I thought she was heading into Jeffrey Dahmer territory, so those two last lines made me laugh REALLY loud.

Dirty Little Secrets

I am the only person
in the world who knows
that between the stove
and the kitchen cabinet
in the dark crevice
of the #10 condo on Palm Ave
in Los Angles
there lies unattended
a spear of raw
asparagus.

Honorable mention going to George Ruetnik. I liked this one a lot. Maybe because I don't read a lot of rhymers, but George gave me the giggles along with a visual.

Tweedle Dee, here we go,
up and down, to and fro.
We feed the beast,
as we face the east,
along the path where the Timbuks grow.

Honorable mention goes to Stacey Gagnon. This one touched my heart, maybe because I survived a few storms myself. Bad poetry doesn't touch the heart.

I know all the signs
keep calling them
weather

Storms to survive
moments of exhale
as winds blow
through my
memory

of a time
I thought
love

was a sunny day
by the lake

Honorable mention to Dawn Blake Souza. This one is too cute to be considered Bad poetry. ♥

My Kid

Scrapes and bruises
Snotty noses
Throwing fits
And balls of spit.
"Oh, he's not my kid,"
So I tell them.
But they see
That that's a lie.
Cause through the Noise
And all the trouble,
It's plain to see
That he's my double.
