The Southeastern Massachusetts Time Exchange is a way for people to get something they need in exchange for something they can do, without any money changing hands. When one member performs one hour of a service for another, they receive credit for that hour, called a ‘Time Credit’. A member can then use that Time Credit to receive a service from another member. Exchange is a way for members of a community – both individuals and organizations - with different needs and skills to exchange services with one another. For example, if someone mows your lawn for an hour, they get a credit from you for that hour. With that credit, they can get any other member in the Time Exchange to perform a service for them - for example, guitar lessons, or a ride to the doctor. That person then receives the credit that they earned from lawn mowing. Individual members can have their needs met or learn new skills. Organizations can use the Time Exchange to as an incentive for existing volunteers - volunteers can get Time Credits for their volunteer work and use those Credits to get something they need. All that is asked from organizations is that they offer something in return - for example, space for a group to meet at their facility, or a spot or two in a class or other program. Like the idea?
