Union sisters and brothers of the Greater Southeastern Mass Labor Council –

Join members of 1199SEIU at an informational picket at Tobey Hospital of Southcoast Hospital Group, this Friday from 2-4pm, 148 Main Street in Wareham.

Workers have been negotiating with Southcoast Management since late last year and management continues to insist that they accept a contract that

freezes wages,
reduces benefits, and
maintains some of the lowest starting wages in the hospital industry.

This despite the fact that the Southcoast Hospital Group has seen a surplus in each of the last 5 years - they last reported achieving a $38 million dollar operating surplus in the FY 14.

Southcoast Health System is a healthy system in a challenging industry. They are not in crisis, Management has simply made a choice. A choice to take the significant surpluses and make massive investments in expanding their doctors’ network at the expense of the working families who provide the staff for their facilities. The members of 1199 SEIU at Tobey have been clear that there needs to be a balanced approach – calling on the Health System to make measured investments in BOTH the recruitment of doctors AND insuring that caregivers can maintain quality jobs.

We will be picketing on Friday June 19th. From 2:00 to 4:00 pm

Dear labor leaders,

Primary day is one week away. We have walk packets in New Bedford, Dartmouth, Fairhaven and Fall River that need to be completed if we want to send Congressman Keating back to DC. I am attaching a flyer for our last labor walk on September 4th. However, if you can't make it on that day, please give Andrew a call at 617-271-4101 and he will deliver some packets for you/your members to complete on your own time prior to next Thursday. Thanks again for your continued support.

We are getting down to the wire. There is not much time left before the primary. The elections this year are the most important in our lifetime and will affect us for years to come. It is extremely important we all do our part to elect Bill Keating and Elizabeth Warren for our families and the next generation.

The Mass AFL-CIO and the council will be doing labor to labor phone banks every day until September 6 at the the hall from 4:30 to 8:00 PM except September 2 and 3. If you like you can take phone lists with you do do at home.

We are also asking that every local take 5 labor to labor walk packets. You can do the walks when the time is convenient for you. The packets are for New Bedford, Fairhaven and Dartmouth.

Call Andrew DeStefano at 617-271-4101 or see him at the council hall at 556 Pleasant St. in New Bedford.
