Batey Hope

Batey Hope We work to improve the health and livelihood of the bateyes through providing public health services. This data is also used to created new programs, as needed.

The Dominican Republic is home to hundreds of sugarcane villages, or bateyes. In these bateyes, families live in small one or two room "houses". Families most often live without access to clean water, proper sanitation facilities, healthy food, and healthcare. Many bateyes depend on local organizations and/or short term volunteer teams for many of the services and programs that help to increase th

eir access to medical care, healthy food, sanitation facilities, and clean water, among other needs. To help address these and other issues present in the bateyes, we use public health data collection and analysis methods to help improve the already existing programs provided by local organizations and short term volunteer teams. Our team returns to the Dominican Republic every 2-3 years to supplement the data and evaluate the progress being made in the bateyes. Our first team trip will be: December 25, 2017 - January 6, 2018
