Changing it up a little bit! Warm today, the lake is clear, cool and beautiful. Some of our Mastiffs loved it! I'll edit this post to say when we moved here 30 years ago we wouldn't let our dogs go in the lake.

Our annual fundraiser is March 28, 2026 at the Backwoods Bar in New Auburn. There will be a chicken dinner catered by Hillcrest Cafe followed by a brief program with lake updates by the DNR and concluding with our raffle drawing. Dinner tickets must be purchased in advance at the Backwoods Bar or from Deb - 320-583-5915. Raffle tickets may be purchased from Backwoods Bar, Curlys, Security Bank in New Auburn or committee members Joy Cohrs, Deb or Kerry Wuetherich, Ed or Jane Goettl, Tim Prachar, Joanne Gruenwalt, Mandy Grack and Christian Lilienthal. ALL tickets sale proceeds are used for lake and Watershed Improvement projects. Please consider joining us!!

The 2026 Ice Fishing contest is a wrap!! Two walleye were caught. Colton Goettl had the largest walleye at .24. Second place was Dan Trout with a walleye weighing .22. These would have been from the 2025 stocking. Congratulations! Ed Goettl won the StikeMaster ice auger. The kids life time fishing license went to Lars Lilienthal. Thank you to all the volunteers and participants!

It will be a bit chilly tomorrow for the ice fishing contest so layer up! There will be hot food and beverages available hosted by the New Auburn Lions! Top prize is a 40 volt StrikeMaster Electric auger donated by Neubarth Lawn and Landscaping for the adult drawing AND a Youth Life Time Fishing License donated by the New Auburn Fire Department Relief Association!! All kids are eligible accompanied by a paid adult AND will receive a free hot dog and a gift compliments of The Friends of High Island!! Cash prizes for fish. There is approximately 16 inches of good ice. Hope to see you there!!

A local angler hooked this nice 16 inch walleye on December 30, 2025! He also said a lot of activity from smaller fish as well. Ice thickness was 13 inches.
