Hoosier Action

Hoosier Action Community organization building the power of rural and small town Hoosiers

Hoosier Action is a new project focused on building the political power of working families and individuals in the state of Indiana. Hoosier Action emphasizes robust community organizing, where campaigns are built around economic and social issues that impact people and communities across the region. Hoosier Action will work to increase voter participation, lift people out of poverty, and build a new political voice for the residents of Indiana who have been left on the margins.

As we know this summer will have some hot days, we are partnering with area churches and organizations to offer a Community Cooling Station this summer. We have volunteer teams for each day. Each Thursday, we will announce the status of the cooling station for the upcoming week.

Next week, the cooling station will be closed each day. Please share to let people know, so they can find the status once we do open it on the hot summer days. If you have any questions, you can contact Dr. Danny Russell at our church.

Leaders with the Resilience Chapter worked hard ahead of the wet weather we’ve seen across Southern Indiana this past week to plant a rain garden and build a rain barrel system at our office in New Albany. The rain water collection system will help keep the plants watered when the sun comes back out and temperatures begin to rise in the Summer months. And, of course, the pollinators love the native plants 🌱

Floyd County packed the Central Christian Church sanctuary this week for a community conversation about the closing of the Floyd Central Library food pantry. The community reacted to the New Albany Library Board's decision to close the food pantry, asked questions of the library board and other elected officials, and committed to working together so that residents in our community have their needs-especially the most basic-met.
