💙 WOW — What a Day at the Capitol! ❤️
Yesterday, we spent the morning in Columbus at the Statehouse meeting with 10 Senators to share who NUCA of Ohio is, what we do, and the issues we are actively supporting on behalf of our industry.
We discussed HB 227 (Ohio Dig Law) — a bill that has already passed and will go into effect on June 9th. This legislation:
• Adjusts the timeline for utility locates before work begins
• Gives contractors an additional 6 days to complete work before renewing a ticket
• Requires contractor education every 5 years
• Begins collecting data on utility hits
We took time to thank our Senators for recognizing the importance of this bill and getting it passed.
We also focused on HB 82 — Construction Zone Safety. I strongly encourage everyone to learn more about this bill.
This legislation is about protecting lives. It includes:
• Increased fines and penalties for repeat offenders
• Use of cameras to enforce violations
• Expanded education on construction zone safety
Let’s be clear — this isn’t about catching someone speeding. It’s about stopping behavior that puts workers’ lives at risk.
Just recently, a 24-year-old worker in Columbus lost his life while simply doing his job. That is unacceptable. This has to stop. We must do more to protect the men and women working on our roads every day.
I was honored to stand alongside our members as we walked the halls of the Capitol and met with legislators. They took time out of their busy schedules to support these critical issues — and that’s what makes this organization strong.

This is absolutely heartbreaking. I had the pleasure of meeting Jordan’s mother before this accident, and knowing she is facing something no mother ever should is truly unfathomable.
As a member of the construction family who has gone to the Capitol to fight for roadway worker safety, this hits even closer to home.
The person responsible didn’t even stop. They hit him and left. I will never understand how someone could do that.
Tomorrow his family will lay him to rest. Please pray for them. Pray for his friends, his coworkers, and everyone whose lives were touched by this young man.
PLEASE remember to pay attention when you are driving — even if it’s NOT in a work zone. People’s lives depend on it. 💛
