Working with nature…

This is what regenerative farming can look like. This is a picture of the Eden Project in Cornwall, England. Unlike conventional monoculture planting, this polyculture system diversifies the soil life, making plants less susceptible to pests and disease. (Photo by Franie Treetops @ Flickr).

Regenerative farming applies the Buddhist wisdom of pratΔ«tyasamutpāda (dependent origination) and inter-being to agriculture. One could also describe this as aligning with the ecological wisdom of Nature, what some African cultures call "ubuntu" - the Indigenous wisdom that all LIFE is interdependently related as a whole, and thrives best as One family -πŸ™πŸ’•

We've got an OXCM first to celebrate, y'all! A national chain restaurant just sourced from a local farm!! OXCM got a call from the manager of Subway who was experiencing national supply shortages and looking hard for green bell peppers. We knew just who to call to make sure that no Subway sandwich was without fresh, crunchy bell peppers - Farmer Carl.of ! If you are new to sourcing locally or would like to add more local produce to your menu, OXCM is here to help. We can connect you to our local farmers and streamline the process! We're here to increase sales for our farmers and get more local food on your menu!! Come congratulate our local food trailblazer Carl today at OXCM from 3-6:30 pm at the Old Armory Pavilion.

Who has their hummingbird feeders out? It’s time to prepare for their arrival! Most ruby red-throated hummingbirds will be throughout Mississippi by the end of March.

πŸ‘‰And don't forget--Refined, white sugar is the best sweetener for homemade nectar! Honey contains fungus that could be dangerous. The iron levels in organic, natural and raw sugars can be harmful, according to the National Audubon Society.

πŸ”…Fun fact: Hummingbirds are attracted to bright colors such as orange, white, and red. Because of this, many people believe it’s important to put red food coloring into the homemade nectar to help attract them to the feeder. This is not necessary and provides no benefits to the hummingbirds! Most feeders are red, and that helps attract the birds to the nectar.

Ruby-throated hummingbirds will soon be migrating north, so it’s time to prepare for their arrival! Most ruby red-throated hummingbirds will be throughout Mississippi by the end of March.
