I was recently asked by one of our many patrons at our Post why doesnt the VFW allow pets or ESA animals of any kind inside the Post? As I explained to her, trained service animals serve a specific purpose for their handlers, are highly specialized and undergo weeks and sometimes months of training before being certified. From the moment a future service dog is excepted into training, it can cost from 5 - 6,000 dollars (sometimes more) for individual training with highly skilled canine trainers along with future handlers who suffer from debilitating anxiety disorders, traumatic brain injuries or PTS disorders. These Certified Service Dogs are NOT pets, they are medical devices to help handlers sometimes just venture beyond the confines of their own home. A "truly-certified" service dog has been conditioned through training not to relieve itself in a public place, to not bark at other dogs or animals or humans, to not act aggressively towards anyone or any other animals. They will ignore all other stimuli except that which is affecting their specific training parameters for/and of their handlers. Now as far as restricting ESAs and pets from our VFW Post, this was a decision that was made several years ago after careful deliberation and debate by a unanimous vote of the entirety of your officers of our Post. It was not made by any one person, but the entirety of the officers of our Post.
I hope this clears up any confusion on this matter.

Effective immediately, our Post is no longer entertaining Dances each Friday of the month. As of today, we are only going to have Dances on every other Friday nights. We will continue to post what band will be playing upstairs and on what date on Facebook and our Marquee outside of our Post. After struggling to simply make enough money to pay the Band each Friday, our attendance was too low to continue to lose money each Friday. Hopefully this new schedule will allow more attendance upstairs and we look forward to seeing everyone every other Friday (sometimes three Fridays in a month) and tripping the light fantastic!
