From our President:
Dear volunteers, after a very long and difficult discussion with myself, my body, and my supporters, I have decided to resign as President of Cards of Compassion.
In June 2023, I began my new journey in life with a neurological disorder that has affected my mobility, independence, and cognitive function. My love for Cards of Compassion, which I created five years ago and have watched grow into a wonderful community, motivated me to continue serving in my role. But my stubbornness and determination have kept me from serving my own body and wellness. I am learning that I need to have compassion for myself as well.
It hurts my heart to give up Cards of Compassion. We began by sending 10 cards to our first recipient and have sent out over 475 Bundles and over 24,000 cards. You, our volunteers, our Board, and our supporters have made all this happen.
What is Cards of Compassion's Future
Please let me reassure you that I will continue my role as President until we have completed our transition. Cards of Compassion has two possible paths. We elect a new President and transition our operations, or we dissolve. While we wait to see what the future holds for Cards of Compassion, we will halt our operations to make the process easier. All Bundle requests made to this point will be honored, and we will be sending out Christmas Bundles the first week of December.
Selecting a new President:
We are looking for a new President who is willing to continue overseeing Cards of Compassion's administrative and functional processes.
The president of the board supervises the interactions of the board. The president provides insight, direction, and collaboration. The president recognizes problems before they start, evaluates how well things are currently working, and helps find new and better solutions. The president is responsible for ensuring that Cards of Compassion meets goals and keeps promises to the public, donors, volunteers, and recipients. This is a volunteer position. No Board members are paid for their services.
Our organization has a sustainable volunteer base, donor relationships, large email and social media subscriptions, a functioning website with SEO traction, and impressive physical card inventory. As a new president, you will need a community presence in your area that is willing to support you with physical and social tasks, such as sorting and bundling cards. We are willing to move Cards of Compassion anywhere in the US.
If you are interested in taking on this role, please notify us at [email protected], and we can discuss the role.
The possibility of dissolution:
If we are unable to find a new President, the Board will vote to dissolve Cards of Compassion. Please be reassured that our mission will continue to the end, and we will spread our resources to the community to share your voices of compassion and kindness. Our physical and virtual card inventory will be passed on to other similar organizations or to suggested recipients. Our funds will be donated to another non-profit. This will be a long and careful process to ensure we give respect to all of the efforts our volunteers have sent our way.
We will keep everyone informed of our process. You are welcome to reach out to us at any time for questions, suggestions, or if you just want to talk. This is a big transition for all of us. We need our community support now more than ever!
