Sunday evening, Feb. 15, was the annual awards and crossover event (for Cub Scouts becoming Scouts) for Scout Troop 128, which includes boys and girls in the Nevada and Collins-Maxwell areas.
Before handing out awards and celebrating three Cubs who would cross over, another celebration took place.
Ryan Condon, who serves as troop leader of the Scouts, waited for the youth and their parents to gather outside of the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church fellowship hall and then he shared why several special guests were also in attendance.
Troop 128, which during Covid had shrunk to only six members, has celebrated incredible growth during the years since the pandemic. With over 20 troop members and a thriving Cub Scout group filled with youth who will hopefully cross over, a new means of hauling supplies and equipment to campouts and other events was necessary.
The brand new trailer was unveiled with many of the generous sponsor representatives in attendance. “We needed a new trailer to haul belongings and supplies for outings, and this community responded to meet the need,” Condon said.
Other Scout leaders explained that the trailer will be fitted with storage racks, a countertop with a sink, and a miniature refrigerator and freezer, which will be so helpful for campouts and other events.
As the trailer was presented, the back doors had been open. Then, two Scouts closed the doors to reveal the impressive number and names of Eagle Scouts Troop 128 has seen succeed in its program, along with the list of those who donated to the trailer.
Trailer sponsors include:
Andy Swanson Family
Nevada Hardware
Condon Services
Burke Corporation
Charlie Good Family
Andy Kelly
Al Kockler
Tim McLaughlin, who gave in memory of his father Tim McLaughlin Sr.
Wirtzy Construction
Shane and Christine Heintz
Tim French Family
Michael and Amber Nusbaum (whose names still need to be added to the trailer)
“We are grateful for the support we receive as we go about the mission of helping young people become responsible community members and moral, upstanding citizens of this country,” Condon said.
Scout Troop 128 also enjoys the support and sponsorship from Nevada’s American Legion Post 48.
