City of Nevada & Nevada Foundation Announce Human Services

Grant Funding Opportunity

The City of Nevada and Nevada Foundation have formed a partnership to provide grant funding to non-profit organizations addressing the basic needs of food, shelter, and clothing for the citizens of Nevada. The City of Nevada has committed $40,000 to the Nevada Foundation for these grants this next fiscal year.

Ryan Condon, Mayor of Nevada explains, “We are proud to partner with the Nevada Foundation to make these grant funds available for these important causes in our community. This is the core reason for groups like the Nevada Foundation to exist, and
with things becoming more difficult for Nevada residents, we hope to continue to think creatively on how help even more organizations in the future.”

All previous Foundation funding awards must be spent, and final reports submitted for a non-profit serving Nevada to apply for this new funding.

An application workshop will be held Tuesday, August 18th at 5:30 pm at City Hall for those organizations that have never applied for funding or for those that desire an application refresher.

The applications will be due by 4:00 pm on October 2nd. The final award announcements will be made no later than October 30th. Application materials can be found on the Foundation website: www.nevadaiowafoundation.org/human-services

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Quarter 2 Toast event to help raise money for Seasons of Giving - a program that raises grant money to be given to local Nevada non-profits.

Our host, Nevada Community Historical Society shared how they would spend funds from a Seasons of Giving grant if they were awarded. The mansion at Evergreen Lane is in need of new windows. Estimates show $160,000 to get them all replaced. 🪟

How can you help this important non-profit organization?

1. Become a member of the Nevada Community Historical Society (its very affordable!) 💵

2. Volunteer. They have Board seats and occasional volunteer positions available. ✋️

3. Tour the facilities on Sundays and learn more about them! Free-Will donations for tours. 🏠

4. Attend their events. The annual Music at the Mansion is June 13th. There will also be several Music on the Porch events. Watch the Nevada Community Historical Society page for more information. 🎶

While the property at Evergreen Lane is private, the organization welcomes you to enjoy picnics or take photos there, they just ask that you make a donation to help them keep the property maintained. Professional photographers can purchase an annual pass to take photos there. 📸

The Nevada Foundation Announces First ‘Seasons of Giving’ Grant Awards

Nevada, Iowa | The Nevada Foundation is proud to announce the completion of its first grant cycle for the Seasons of Giving fund, awarding a total of $24,000 to six local organizations dedicated to strengthening the Nevada community.

The Seasons of Giving fund was created with a clear mission: Together, with the entities and organizations that host and support many causes in our community, we can create a larger impact by collaborating on fundraising efforts and boosting awareness. This coordinated approach allows Nevada’s generosity to work year-round, supporting a continuous cycle of giving where it’s needed most.

Grant awards will be distributed across three of the fund’s four focus areas:

Helping Hands – Supporting basic needs such as clothing, food insecurity, and shelter. Nonprofits receiving funding in this category are working directly with families and individuals to ensure every neighbor has access to essential resources.

Building Nevada – Enhancing community life through beautification and revitalization projects, arts and recreation opportunities, and essential services that help Nevada thrive and grow.

Capturing Kids’ Hearts – Supporting youth through student assistance, childcare needs, and student development programs that foster healthy learning environments and brighter futures.

The Nevada Foundation is pleased to present grant awards to the following nonprofit organizations in our community:
- Nevada Community School District: Student Assistance Fund - $4,000
- Nevada Community Resource Center (NCRC) - $4,000
- Nevada Community Garden - $4,000
- Harmony Clothing Closet - $4,000
- The Camelot Theater Foundation - $4,000
- Boys & Girls Club of Story County - $4,000

The Nevada Foundation will continue its commitment to sustaining the Seasons of Giving fund, encouraging collaboration and shared purpose to serve Nevada today and for generations to come.

The recipients of this year’s award have demonstrated the spirit of philanthropy and support of the community that spans many years and many causes. Their contributions to the community impact students and families in several ways.

The Nevada Foundation was proud to present this year’s Spirit of Nevada awards at our Annual Celebration on Thursday evening. Elizabeth Gindt and Jodi Heeren are shining examples of the “Spirit of Nevada.”
