What comes to mind when you think of recreation in Nevada County? Perhaps something outdoors at the Yuba River, in the Tahoe National Forest, or along the trails and lakes closer to Grass Valley, Nevada City, and Truckee!
This week, Vera caught the group off guard with a different kind of recreation. She worked to incorporate and share her experience through the Nevada County Community Leadership Institute Arts and Culture Day and her new lens to Arts & Culture in Nevada County.
She explained some of the work of the County Arts Council to work on a five-year strategic plan for the Arts in Nevada County while considering various other plans, including the Recreation and Resiliency Master Plan.
She highlighted new venues like the massive InConcert Sierra Crown Point gem, slated to be one of twelve natural acoustic venues in the country, holding 504 seats as well as a Black Box theatre capable of seating 150, and a conference center that can host 300 - 400 guests. The new facility is scheduled to open in July 2026.
She also shared her experience visiting the Center for the Arts with her father. She described their reaction to such a beautiful space within walking distance of the beautiful downtown Grass Valley. She continued to compare it to other beautiful spaces she has visited, including Ashland, Oregon's Shakespeare Festival. She noted the venue is about 21,000 square feet and can seat 507 folks, and is a lovely space to visit and see a host of productions.
What rural county has 2 Cultural Arts Districts, and a poppin' Arts and Culture scene? Nevada County!
She ended her speech, encouraging us all to get out and enjoy the arts and culture scene right here in Nevada County!
