Yesterday, the Nevada County Planning Commission listened to almost two dozen Sierra Roots/No Place To Go Project supporters and then voted 4-0 to recommend the proposed tiny homes on wheels ordinance be amended to include ALL homes on wheels (RVs, trailers, etc.).
We still have to sell the Board of Supervisors on it, but today we proved if we're polite, passionate, persistent, and reasonable, we can speak truth to power - and they took the action we advocated.
We won't always get what we want, but over the last two years, we've branded the Sierra Roots/No Place To Go project as a peaceful and persuasive advocate for unhoused and homeless people.
We appreciate your support!

Be the change we want to see! Come to the Rood Center at 1:30 p.m. Thursday for the Nevada County Planning Commission public hearing on the proposed tiny homes on wheels ordinance.

Help us show and tell the commissioners that we, the people, want the ordinance amended to include all homes on wheels (RVs and trailers) legalized. If government and free enterprise can't provide housing, it's up to us. It's all about housing for the people by the people.

It's okay to be passionate about it, but always be civil and respectful. We want their cooperation, not their animosity.

Excellent meeting Thursday evening at the Penn Valley Municipal Advisory Council (MAC). The MAC members voted unanimously to approve the proposed tiny homes on wheels ordinance -- with the recommendation that the ordinance go beyond tiny homes on wheels to include trailers and RVs to house low-wage workers and folks with fixed incomes..

Furthermore, Nevada County Principal Planner Tyler Barrington acknowledged for the first time that the ordinance is probably just the "first step" in opening up all homes on wheels as truly affordable housing for the low-wage workforce and for disabled and older people on fixed incomes.

Together - and only together - can we get some housing justice for our most vulnerable citizens. This is real progress, but it's not a done deal yet. Next, we take the all-homes-on-wheels case to the Planning Commission at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Rood Center in Nevada City. If you care, be there!
