Our Tide Pool Exploration days start in less than one week! These habitats are incredible, but also very fragile. Here are some tips for exploring like an expert that will come in handy during next week’s low tides;

- Wear weather appropriate clothes and shoes
- Check weather and tide conditions
- Avoid walking on slippery rocks
- Watch for hidden marine life
- Leave habitats undisturbed
- Pick up litter if you see it
- Be gentle with tide pool animals
- Do not pry animals from rocks
- Respect the ecosystem

The tide pools inhabitants and beach goers appreciate your effort to respect this space greatly! Next week we will have experts out on the beach to help everyone have a safe, exciting, hands-on experience.

Hi! I’m Naomi, and I will be taking over the WEBS account for the next two weeks 😎 I am studying marine biology at Hawai’i Pacific University and I am spending my summer interning with WEBS here on the Oregon Coast.
I love learning about ocean animals from giant whales to tiny invertebrates and am always happy to share about my experience with all of them first hand. Some of my favorite sea creatures include octopi, nudibranchs, and humpback whales- all three of which I have been lucky enough to see here on the Oregon coast and in Hawai’i. I am always up for a new adventure, rain or shine, deep sea swimming or mountain hikes, dawn or dusk.
I am so excited to be back for my third summer as an intern here, where I’ve gotten to explore our eelgrass beds, forests, salt marshes, and my favorite; our tide pools.
These amazing ecosystems hold so much diverse and beautiful life, and if you are interested in learning about them join us next week for our Tide Pool Exploration days, June 16th, 17th, and 18th

🌎On April 26th, WEBS hosted our annual Earth Month Beach Cleanup in partnership with and the Oceanside Action Partnership. During this event, 109 volunteers covered WEBS’ entire service area from Cape Lookout to Cape Meares in just one day!

We kicked off the day with a group of high school exchange students who scoured Cape Lookout’s day-use area, hiker/biker campground, and beach. Then we shifted our focus north as volunteer teams set out from Schooner Beach, Oceanside Beach, and Cape Meares Beach. Together, we removed 165 pounds of debris from our coastline!

A huge thank you to for their continued support and delicious food, and to our partners at , Tillamook County Solid Waste Department, and City Sanitary, for making this event possible.

We can’t wait to do it again—we’ll see you back out there on July 5th! 🎉

During our clam dissection station in our 5th grade clamming program, students discovered something incredible hiding inside the gaper clam — the tiny pea crab!

These little crabs (about the size of a pea!) live inside the clam's shell, taking food particles the clam brings in through its siphon. Most research about this relationship claims it is a form of parasitism — the crab benefits, but the clam doesn't get much in return! However, according to local scientist Clair Thomas, who has conducted his own research on them, he has actually found this to be a mutualistic relationship, where the pea crabs help break down plant material that the clam then eats. The females spend their entire adult lives inside the clam, while males occasionally venture out to find a mate.

Nature is full of surprises! 🐚 Have you ever found one of these little lodgers?
