S*K 1A State Track Athlete to Watch
Ness City senior Taegin Liggett heads into her final state track meet as one of the most decorated athletes in Kansas high school track history. Liggett qualified for state in four events once again after posting regional marks of 12.13 in the 100m, 45.6 in the 300m hurdles, 58.7 in the 400m, and an outstanding 18β10β in the long jump.
Over her career, Liggett has piled up state medals across nearly every sprint and relay event imaginable. As a freshman, she finished runner-up in the 100m, placed 3rd in the 200m, and helped Ness City win the 4x100 state title while taking 2nd in the 4x400. Sophomore year brought another runner-up finish in both the 100m and 300m hurdles along with another 4x100 state championship. Last season as a junior, she captured the 1A state title in the 100m while again helping lead the 4x100 relay to gold.
Her rΓ©sumΓ© is loaded with records as well. Liggett owns nine Ness City school records in the 100, 200, 400, 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles, long jump, triple jump, 4x100, and 4x400. She also holds two state records in the 100m and 4x100 relay.
The future Fort Hays State University athlete is hoping to close out an incredible high school career with one more memorable state performance. βThis is my last one, which is super bittersweet to me,β she told S*K. βI have had amazing coaches through the years that have made my track experience so special. I canβt wait to see how my high school track career ends, hopefully on a high note!!β
