Have you ever wondered what amateur radio is all about?

You can take part in ARRL Field Day at the DeSoto County Agri-Education Center June 27-28. It is part of nationwide event that brings amateur radio ("ham radio") operators together to demonstrate how radio communication can provide critical connections during emergencies when phones, internet, or other systems may fail.

Visitors will have the chance to see equipment in action, learn about emergency communications, and discover how amateur radio continues to support communities through public service and emergency preparedness efforts.

Local ARRL Field Day activities will take place at the Agri-Education Center:

Chickasaw Amateur Radio Association (CARA) and DeSoto E.M.A. Reserve members will also be there to share how they help serve and support the community during emergencies and local events.

When a stroke happens, seconds count. Getting the right help quickly can make all the difference.

That was the important message shared during today’s Southaven Chamber of Commerce Quarterly Luncheon held at the DeSoto County Agri-Education Center and presented by Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto.

Neurologists Dr. Violiza Inoa and Dr. Neha Kumar from Semmes Murphey Clinic, PC spoke about Baptist Desoto’s leadership in stroke care and the lifesaving importance of rapid emergency response.

Attendees heard the powerful story of a local woman who suffered a stroke. EMS quickly recognized the emergency, transported her, and alerted the hospital so the stroke team was ready upon arrival. Thanks to immediate treatment, she went from being unable to speak or lift her arm to a remarkable recovery with minimal symptoms. She attended today’s luncheon and personally thanked the Baptist team and EMTs who helped save her life.

Speakers also encouraged everyone to remember the warning signs of stroke and to “BE FAST”:

Balance difficulties
Eyesight changes
Face weakness
Arm weakness
Speech difficulties
Time to call 911

The DeSoto County Agri-Education Center was proud to host today’s luncheon. The facility is available for a wide variety of community events including meetings, conferences, educational programs, expos, banquets, and special events.

Whether large or small, the goal is to provide a welcoming space that helps bring people together and serve the community.

🐐 FAMACHA Training – Coming to DeSoto County! 🐑

Sheep and goat producers, Extension agents, 4‑H families, and students—join us for FAMACHA Training on May 26th from 10:00 AM–2:00 PM at the DeSoto Agri‑Ed Center in Nesbit.

This hands‑on training focuses on sustainable parasite control and provides official FAMACHA certification.

✅ Must attend both parts of the class

Open Ride times have changed at the DeSoto County Agri-Education Center!

Open Ride is now available Monday–Friday from 10 AM to 5 PM (closed on weekends and holidays). This update allows us to keep hours aligned with when our team is on-site to best support our riders and facility.

✨ $5 per horse
✨ Barrels allowed on Thursdays only
✨ Current coggins required
