Have you ever wondered where the nickname for NHS "Bluestreaks" came from. Now we know. The following was posted in the Bits and Pieces of the 1-18-24 edition of the Neodesha Derrick.
Here is what it said:
Raymond Hedrick, longtime sports fan, sportswriter and former editor of the Register is responsible for coining the term “Bluestreaks” as the name of the NHS athletic teams. On Oct. 21, 1926 was writing up the game between Neodesha and Chanute. The article read “Uncorking a brand of football that has been as foreign to Neodesha for the past few years as frogs in the Sahara Desert, the blue and white warriors proved veritable “Blue Streaks” against Chanute of the Big Seven Conference.” McNair was the coach and Neodesha won on an extra point kicked by Truman Justice, 7-6. Prior to all this, Neodesha was known variously as “Neodesha, Blue and White, “the Blues, the Basketeers, and the Footballers depending on the sport.
