The Hocking County Community Fund is proud to share the success of last nights efforts at the Hocking County Fair's large animal sale. Once again, the remarkable generosity of our community shone through, as local businesses and individuals came together in support of both our youth and the fight against food insecurity in Hocking County.
At last nights sale, buyers had the option to "Keep," "Turn," or "Donate" their hogs to the Fill the Freezer (FTF) program, an initiative of the Hocking County Community Fund. The FTF program raises funds to cover processing fees, ensuring that 100% of the donated meat stays within Hocking County to support our local food pantries. This critical program has become a cornerstone of our efforts to ensure that no one goes hungry in our county.
Now in its third year, the Fill the Freezer program continues to make a significant impact. Donated meat is stored with the Southeast Ohio Foodbank and distributed to local pantries as needed. We extend our gratitude to our partners—the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio, the Southeast Ohio Foodbank, and the Hocking County Fair Board—for their ongoing support. We also wish to thank our 2024 sponsors: Mennel, Logan Walmart, and United Way of Hocking County.
In just two years, this program has provided over 4,705 lbs. of sausage, valued at more than $21,700, to those in need. Tonight, we are thrilled to announce that 28 out of the 56 total swine projects were generously donated back to the community—an incredible display of support from Hocking County.
Thank you to everyone who made this possible. Your contributions make a tangible difference in the lives of our neighbors. Together, we are building a stronger, more resilient community.
