We are excited to begin our 12th year of providing therapeutic riding services to our surrounding communities. As we prepare for the upcoming season and welcome new riders, we are seeking dedicated volunteers to help support our program.

Volunteering in therapeutic riding lessons is both rewarding and meaningful. Session volunteers play a vital role as a link of communication between instructors and participants, helping ensure each rider has a safe and positive experience. Volunteers provide emotional, educational, and physical support throughout each session.

No prior experience is required, just a willingness to learn and a heart for helping others.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Joe and Hope Burkart, and Brian and Amber Burkart for their generous donation of four equine friends to our riding center.
Merlin, a half Friesian and half Quarter Horse gelding; Sarle, a sorrel Quarter Horse gelding; Stick, Merlin’s mom and a beautiful palomino mare; and Doc, an older retired reining horse and sorrel Quarter Horse gelding, have all joined our program with great promise.
As they settle in, we have begun the important process of preparing them for therapeutic work. Therapeutic riding horses receive specialized training to be calm, patient, and responsive to riders with physical, emotional, and cognitive disabilities. This includes desensitization to unexpected movements, sounds, and equipment, along with developing strong groundwork, excellent manners, and the ability to work safely in structured environments.
We are deeply grateful to the Burkart family for their generosity, support, and trust in our program. These horses will make a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve.

Family of the Month: The Martin Family

We are proud to recognize the Martin family—Shelly, Chris Martin, Alexa Martin, and Aidan—as our Family of the Month! Their dedication and heart for service have made a lasting impact on our riders and the Hundred Acre Woods Riding Center as a whole.

Recently, I found myself dealing with a stubborn drainage issue on the north end of our arena. I mentioned to Chris that I would need to hire someone to come fix it—but without hesitation, he offered to help. In just about an hour, using his expertise and our tractor, Chris had completely resolved the problem. His willingness to step in and lend a hand speaks volumes about his character and commitment.

Shelly is equally incredible. She always makes sure the kids are here to help, even when Chris is away working on the railroad. Her determination and support behind the scenes truly keep everything running smoothly.

Alexa and Aidan are two of the kindest, most thoughtful young people you could hope to have working with our riders. They are consistently upbeat, respectful, and mindful of safety. Just last night, Aidan noticed a saddle was off-center and stopped me to fix it—his attention to detail and care for our riders’ safety was impressive.

To the entire Martin family: thank you. Your generosity, kindness, and dedication do not go unnoticed. You are a truly valued part of our team and community, and we are so grateful to have you here at the Hundred Acre Woods Riding Center.

🌟 Horse Handler of the Month: Kinlee Rae 🌟

We are thrilled to recognize Kinlee Rae as our Horse Handler of the Month! Kinlee has truly stepped into a leadership role this year as an intern in our program. Her passion for horse therapy shines through in everything she does, and we’re proud to support her as she pursues this path for her future.

A recent high school graduate, Kinlee will be attending State Fair Community College this year. She brings a heart of gold to the Hundred Acre Woods Riding Center—always dependable, deeply caring for both our horses and riders, and consistently helping to keep our barn running smoothly and orderly.

We feel incredibly blessed to have Kinlee as part of our team. Thank you, Kinlee, for your dedication, compassion, and the joy you bring to our center!

We actually had some lessons Monday and Tuesday!
Good morning, we are canceling riding therapy this week due to the extreme heat. We will try to make up lessons toward the end of the week. I will get hold of everyone. Thank you! Stay safe and hydrated!
