Even though it has been a year since we last met, I still would like to recognize the annual Day of Silence. Whether you participated today on your own or not, please take a moment today to remember what Day of Silence stands for - those LGBT people who have been "silenced" by discrimination, bullying and hate.
The GSA may have been short lived, but our difference mattered. We needed a voice then and will continue to for as long as there are hate groups, anti-LGBT laws and sentiments around the world. I am aware that everyone is busy, but I think it would benefit remaining members and those future interested to perhaps hold some form of meeting. Since I am no longer there, I am depending on all of YOU to make this happen. Don't let our GSA become just a fond memory of last year.
Break the Silence between our organization and the student body and reunite with the cause. The GSA was created to make NHS a safe space and to create a dialogue regarding the LGBT community and issues. Please consider following through if only through your small groups. Tell your friends, teachers and fellow students that you, the GSA, are an important part of student life and well being at NHS.
Thank you,
Lydia Jarvi
