Neenah Club

Neenah Club Growth Through Knowledge Since 1909 In 1909, a group of local businessmen who had been meeting each week decided to formalize their meetings.

The Neenah Club is a local men's social organization that serves as a knowledge growth center for members, offering weekly luncheon learning meetings, along with a place to relax, socialize and make new friends. The result ... the Neenah Club, a men’s organization dedicated to discussing business, current events, political agendas, early innovations and social life. Building on those traditions st

arted more than a century ago, today’s Neenah Club serves as a meeting place for a diverse group of men with a desire to learn, explore new ideas, stay connected and relax. Weekly lunch meetings still are held; we regularly host key community members who present the latest information available in their respective work places, giving members the opportunity to learn and connect in a relaxed, social environment. Neenah Club requires neither fundraising efforts nor community service hours; we are simply an organization that exists as a place to learn, grow, stay connected, and just relax. Outside of the meeting times, our club building is always available to all members as a place to meet, socialize and relax with friends; we look forward to continuing this tradition for centuries to come. The club’s Monday luncheons are a time-honored tradition among members and serve as a unique opportunity. Representatives of government, business and other organizations come to speak each week and give us a chance to learn something new and connect to our community. After more than 100 years, the Neenah Club still serves as a great place to connect with others. You’ll meet new friends, socialize and find people who will challenge you, stimulate your mind and help you grow, think and learn. We’re happy to have a facility that we call our own; a place where each member has his own key and can come and go as he pleases. Come to read a good book in a quiet, comfortable place, socialize or play a game of cards.

Hear an explanation of some of the content from Jim Purtell’s books "Vietnam: There and Back - A Combat Medic's Chronicle" and "Lee Harvey Oswald - Patriot, Provocateur or Patsy". Vietnam and the JFK Assassination were two of the most prominent events during the 1960's. In the first part of his speech, Jim will put you in the jungle of Vietnam with him as an 18-year-old naive kid. The second half of his speech will hopefully open a lot of minds about who Lee Harvey Oswald was and what role he played in the JFK Assassination.

Come with your questions and comments as Jim expects this to be a back-and-forth exchange. He will also bring copies of his books.

The 275-mile river system that includes the Fox and Lower Wisconsin Rivers extends from Green Bay to Prairie du Chien. Beginning in the 1820s, government and private interests began to view the route as a direct water highway to the West. Construction began in the 1851, and over the course of three decades, twenty-six hand-operated locks were constructed on the 162-mile stretch between Portage and Green Bay. To provide round-the-clock response, the U.S Corps of Engineers built modest homes adjacent to the locks where the men, known as lockmasters, and their families could reside.

In this presentation, Christine Williams will discuss the construction of the locks, the boats and the materials they carried, the lockmasters and their families - including their unique way of life. She'll chronicle the history of the locks - from its inception to the rebirth after the State of Wisconsin took over the Lower Fox River Locks in 2004.
