On Sunday, the 5th grade AOL den of Needham Pack 823 Cub Scouts was invited by Troop 10 Needham to attend the Quincy Presidential Trail Camporee. We visited the national historic sites of Quincy, visited the USS Salem, engaged in a conservation project planting bulbs, participated ropes courses, and climbed rock walls.

Next up is our outdoor cooking class/demonstration next Saturday at our Cubmaster’s house - let us know if you are interested.

Trivia (for those who know without google or AI): How did the city of Quincy get its name? Submit your answers/guesses in the comments.

It is a busy week for Pack 823. Tomorrow evening (Tuesday) will be our den meetings at 6PM (K-2) and 7PM (3-5). Please come join us at the St Joe’s school cafeteria if you are interested.

This past weekend we were at the Needham Camporee with Pack 4 and Troops 10/13. Tonight the 5th graders visited the older scouts at a Troop 10 meeting. Then this upcoming weekend the 5th graders will be doing a day trip to the Quincy Presidential Trail Camporee where they will engage in a mix of history exploring the President's Trail with re-enactors, conservation projects, tours, and activities. The Presidents Trail is a unique, urban 2.7 mile hiking trail through the heart of Quincy’s historic landmarks. The Trail highlights the homes and locations important to the Quincy, Adams, and Hancock families.

We had a fun rocket day yesterday and even had a visit from some Northeastern rocket scientists showing off their model rocket.

Next up, it isn’t too late for anyone interested to pop in to our Pack meeting tonight at 5PM at the Saint Joseph School cafeteria. Feel free to drop by.

Last call for free rocket drop-off / pick-up!

Any kid K-5 (boys and girls) interested in Cub Scouts are welcome to come to our Rocket Day this Saturday morning at 10 AM at the Olin College soccer fields.

We have extra rockets that scouts can build before Saturday (we can drop off or you can pickup) and we will have a few ready made onsite available at the event for those that don’t have an opportunity to build in advance. Shoot us a message if you want a rocket.

For those who can’t make Rocket Day, we also have our next Pack meeting this Sunday at 5PM at the St Joseph School cafeteria. Feel free to drop in to learn more or reach out to us directly.

We’re excited to announce that Needham Pack 8 and Pack 23 have officially merged to form a stronger, more vibrant scouting community!

By coming together, we can create more opportunities for adventure, friendship, teamwork, and fun while giving our Scouts an even bigger community to learn and grow with each other.

📍 Meetings will be held at the cafeteria at Saint Joseph School. Our first meeting of the scouting year will be next Tuesday, September 8th.

We’re looking forward to this exciting new chapter and can’t wait to see what our Scouts accomplish together!

Who is ready for a year of pinewood derby car races, rocket launches, woodworking projects, local hikes, community service opportunities, museum overnight adventures, WooSox/Providence Bruins games, and just having some fun? We will be kicking off our scouting year in just over a week on Tuesday, September 8th!

Scouts can join at any age between Kindergarten and 5th grade, and yes, we have had many join as late as 3rd - 5th grade over the past few years! Most of our scouts are also involved in sports, music, and other programs and our intent is to provide the scouts with a well rounded extra curricular program.

Reach out to us for any additional questions. More information to come in the upcoming week with final logistics for our first meeting. All are welcome to come and check it out.

On Saturday, Needham Pack 8 Cub Scouts attended Scout Day at the Worcester Red Sox game. Scouts had the opportunity to go on the field before the game for a ceremony, play catch on the field after the game, and those interested could also camp overnight in the field. We saw Needham Pack 4 there as well! Pretty soon we will be kicking off some late summer activities (local hike or kayaking/canoeing) before we start our new school year programming. Happy 4th from Needham Pack 8! Today we joined Pack 4 and Troop 13 in the Needham Exchange Club 4th of July Parade. It was a hot one but the crowds were amazing and it was great to see the community out celebrating. Enjoy a happy and safe rest of your holidays!

Yesterday was the Needham Pack 8 Cub Scouts bike rodeo for our final Pack meeting of the school year.

The Webelos den did an extended bike ride before then joined the younger dens on a light ride on the Needham Rail Trail (Bay Colony Rail Trail). The scouts also learned proper bike helmet fitting and how to patch a punctured bike tube.

Thank you to MassBike for sharing bicycle safety lights for the scouts.

Next up for Pack 8 is marching in the 4th of July Parade in Needham. Let us know if you are interested in participating, all K-5 are welcome!
