Every October, National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) recognizes the invaluable contributions of workers with disabilities.

This year's theme, "Celebrating Value and Talent," honors the important role people with disabilities have played in shaping our workplaces, communities, and economy throughout American history, while recognizing the skills, expertise, and unique perspectives they bring to today's workforce.

At Charles River Center, we are incredibly proud of the individuals we support who have secured meaningful jobs in the community. Their hard work, dedication, and talents strengthen local businesses every day. We are also deeply grateful to the employers who recognize their potential and have made inclusive hiring a priority.

Throughout October, we'll be celebrating NDEAM by spotlighting some of our employed individuals and the businesses that have embraced workplace inclusion. We invite you to follow along as we share their stories and demonstrate why inclusive employment benefits everyone.

We are firm believers that when individuals are given the opportunity to succeed, their value and talent shine.

On Monday, October 12, Charles River Center will be closed in observance of Indigenous Peoples' Day.

As we enjoy the holiday, we encourage everyone to take a moment to honor the resilience, heritage, and lasting contributions of Indigenous peoples whose cultures and traditions continue to enrich our communities and our world.

We wish everyone a safe, enjoyable, and meaningful day.

Families will receive boarding passes, pass through security, and board an aircraft, all in a supportive environment designed to help children become familiar with the sights, sounds, and procedures of air travel.

Participation is free, but registration is required.

The weather may have forced us to cancel this year’s Charles River Center 5K Run/1 Mile Walk, but it couldn’t stop the spirit of our friends and neighbors at North Hill.

On Wednesday, Team North Hill organized their own 1 Mile Walk in support of Charles River Center. A group of staff and residents laced up their sneakers and completed a course that ended right here the top of the hill.

To make it even more special, participants from our Day Habilitation program went out to cheer them on.

We are incredibly grateful to North Hill for being such wonderful neighbors and for their ongoing support of our mission.

As we prepare for a Wings for Autism®️ event this weekend at Worcester Regional Airport, we wanted to express our gratitude to the all organizations that have made it possible for Wings for Autism soar in 2026! ✈️💙

A special shout-out to the The Hamilton Company Foundation, The Clayton R. and Ruth L. Hawkridge Foundation, the Lawson Charitable Foundation, and the Wellesley Hills Junior Women's Club for their generous grant support.

Their funding helps families of children with special needs participate in a practice airport experience that increases the likelihood of successful future air travel, while also providing important training for airport personnel to better support travelers with disabilities.

Thank you for helping create a more inclusive travel experience for all!

In 2011, the first 5K Run/1 Mile Walk was held on an unseasonably warm day in early November. More than 300 runners and walkers - an amazing turnout for an inaugural race!- laced up their sneakers to tackle the course. The event brought together individuals Charles River serves and their families, as well as people who were learning about our commitment to community inclusion. We appreciate everyone who joined us that day, as well as those who have joined us in the years since!

Can you name these individuals? As we go through our archives, we often see the same faces in different settings. However, because these images were captured on slides, we know only the timeframe: the 1980s. We don't have any other identifying information. Please help us name these former Charles River staffers!
