The Future of Nazareth Fund was created in 2007 when the Don and Sybil Harrington Foundation awarded a grant to match funds raised locally. This fund was housed at the Amarillo Area Foundation (AAF). Like other community funds across the area, some local grants were made, but no active plan was in place to help the advisors actively seek donations to grow the fund. In 2015, the Future of Nazareth
Fund was selected to participate in an AAF pilot program that would provide emphasis on building an Endowed Legacy Fund. Each year, a portion of the income from the Future of Nazareth Fund will be granted to nonprofit organizations to benefit the community. The remaining income will help the endowment fund grow year after year. As an affiliate of the AAF, the Future of Nazareth Fund receives services including financial management, strategic development and training. This partnership provides advantages such as safekeeping and management of the endowment fund. The Future of Nazareth Fund is managed by a group of local advisors who represent a cross section of the community. Grant decisions are made locally by members of this committee. Because we believe in the community Fund, each local advisor supports this Fund with a charitable contribution. We have begun to visit with those who have a “heart for Nazareth” about their potential gift or bequest to help the endowed fund grow. Every donation counts and we want to reach out to locals, as well as those who used to live in Nazareth but have since moved away.
