Right Here in Our Community — A Reminder Why Awareness Matters

A former senior enlisted leader at Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC), previously assigned right here at Hurlburt Field, is now facing serious criminal charges, including indecent recording, obstructing justice, and multiple child-pornography-related counts, with a general court-martial scheduled for February 10, 2026. He was relieved of duty earlier this year amid loss of confidence and an ongoing investigation. 

This is not just another headline—it’s a stark reminder that abuse of power can happen anywhere, even within organizations and communities we trust most. Predators often leverage positions of authority, leadership, and credibility to hide in plain sight.

Operation Northern Lights

Shadows of Strength is incredibly honored to have been asked by the U.S. Marshals Service to support Operation Northern Lights — a two-week, multi-agency operation that resulted in the location and rescue of 43 critically missing children across the Florida Panhandle.

This operation was only possible because of the dedication, collaboration, and relentless commitment of so many agencies working together with one goal: bringing children home and ensuring they receive the services and protection they deserve. To every agency and partner involved — thank you.

We also extend our deepest gratitude to AEVEX Aerospace for donating 8 additional laptops to Shadows of Strength. Because of your generosity, we were able to equip 8 SOS Volunteer Analysts with secure, nonprofit-owned laptops during this operation. Providing safe, encrypted, and secure technology is essential when handling PII and sensitive investigative information, and your support directly strengthened operational security and effectiveness.

Most importantly, we want to recognize our incredible Volunteer Analysts. You dedicated countless hours, worked quietly behind the scenes, and played a vital role in this mission. Every data point, pattern identified, and lead supported mattered. You each made a difference.

At Shadows of Strength, our mission goes far beyond awareness. We analyze the patterns of human trafficking throughout the Florida Panhandle—how these networks move in, out, and back into our state—and we bring this intelligence directly to local and federal agencies.

But during this work, we uncovered major loopholes in the legal system, especially through the case of Ariel Norris. Her story forced us to pause and reflect on so many other Survivors we’ve stood beside. That’s when Shadows of Strength, along with a few trusted partners, began drafting a GROOMING BILL when discussing human trafficking for not only underage but for adult Victims as well for Florida earlier this year.

We reached out to several Survivors we’ve helped and asked if they wanted their voice included. Without hesitation, they all said “Yes.”

We’ve kept this initiative quiet—until now.
A huge thank you to Representative Michelle Salzman for meeting with us, truly listening, and connecting us with Representative Toby Overdorf’s Office. We are proud to share that his office is moving forward with this legislation, which we hope to name Ariel’s Law.
