For Barb Jenkins, reclaiming her name became part of reclaiming herself.

In her victim impact statement, she began with: “Hello, my name is Jane Doe. You stole my identity.” She ended by naming what she had taken back: strength, courage, dignity, and finally, Barb Jenkins.

Every survivor’s path is different. In this month’s podcast, Barb shares her journey from survivor to advocate, the story behind Burying Jane Doe, and what healing and resilience have looked like for her.

Her identity is not the story. Her voice deserves to be heard. She deserves support, dignity, and privacy.

You don’t need the perfect words. You just need to show up.

Sometimes showing up means checking in. Sometimes it means getting help. Sometimes it means speaking up when something doesn’t feel right.

The recent allegations involving Cornell have brought renewed attention to the role bystanders can play when harmful behavior is happening around them.

You don’t have to put yourself in danger or know exactly what to say. But noticing something is wrong and choosing not to ignore it can matter.

Since 2007, that one voice has grown into a community built on hope, healing, education, advocacy, and the belief that survivors deserve to be heard.

When someone finds the courage to report sexual crimes, they shouldn’t be left wondering what happens next.

The conversation surrounding Cornell is a reminder that how institutions respond matters just as much as encouraging survivors to come forward.

Survivors deserve clear communication, access to support, and to be treated with care and respect throughout the process.

Speaking up is already difficult. The systems meant to respond should not make it harder.

Support.
Communication.
Accountability.

Survivors deserve all three 💙
