Today, we are referred to as Urban Indians resided in counties such as but not limited to; Wayne, Monroe, Oakland, Li
vingston, Washtenaw, St. Clair, Flint, Genesse, Lapeer, Saginaw, Bay City, Cheboygan and Mackinac Counties. All Counties in the Lower Peninsula do not have Indian Health & Human Contract Services in place. The U.S Indian Claims Commissioner awarded the Mackinac & Grand River Bands Indians Land Claims Judgment Awards in 1972 & 1978. Today, we are the thousands who have been excluded from the same programs & services. We are working together to establish our rights to share in the judgments already awarded to the Michigan Ottawa and Chippewa Indians before the Indian Claims Commission. Our Urban communities have suffered too long without utilizing the millions of trust funds set aside for the various Ottawa and Chippewa Indians of Michigan.
