Doug spent the last four years working in Afghanistan as a US federal employee. He was a field researcher with the Department of Defense and a field program officer with US Agency for International Development. In both positions Doug worked closely with local Afghans, the US military and other civilian agencies. Doug spent this time in rural districts of Kandahar and Zabul Provinces. He previously spent 6 years as a reporter covering the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, traveling extensively across both countries and sending hundreds of stories home to media outlets across the United States.
