M-I-C-R-O-C-H-I-P-S WORK!!!!! This is a tale of Dollie, a female Doberman owned by the Winn family who live in the parish about two miles outside of the city limits past I-49 corridor. She was reported "Lost" but being outside of our jurisdiction, we could only pray for her safe return. Fast forward to this morning, we received a call about a dog running loose around Pilgrims Pride on the bypass. She was easily captured, taken to the shelter, scanned, and to our amazement, she was microchipped. Within minutes, we were able to get in touch with her family members and she was returned expeditiously.

While it may be curious as to how a dog traveled over ten miles, or maybe a samaritan found her and brought her into the city and released her in close proximity to the shelter, the fact of the matter is that her being microchipped was the winning factor in getting her returned to her family. Collars can be removed or broken, but a microchip is the best way to ensure that your family member can be returned. Best $20 to $80 investment you can take.

Contact your veterinarian for the opportunity of a lifetime and help us to better enable to help you. Microchip your pet today.

***UPDATE*** - 4/30/2026 Chop has been adopted by the Reliford family. Thank you for your early arrival and meeting us at the gate. That is a dedicated family and Chop is in great hands.

Chop is a little over three years old, still in tack male, black/tan, 97 lbs, Rottweiler. He was an inside pet, but previous owner took on more responsibility at work and felt that Chop was not getting the proper attention that he deserves. He was surrendered so that special family can give him an opportunity.

He is up to date on all vaccinations, bordatella, and had a three year rabies vaccination in December 2025. The shelter gave him a monthly flea/tick, dewormer, and mange treatment just to cover all basis. During his last vet visit, he was tested for Heartworms as a weak positive.

He is a little timid, but is looking for friendship. Seems to know basic commands and will sit next to you for approval. Did not seem to have any problems while walking down the kennels with other dogs present. Ideal dog for someone looking for a home protector due to his intimidating stature.

Adoption fee is $75.00.
