Chapter I has not seen rain literally in months, so we were excited to plan an evening cruise on South Cane River. We gathered and traveled by barge with water bottles, cooling towels, sunglasses and hats to protect us from the sun and the brutal heat.
Participants took lovely pictures of herons looking for dinner, lots of fish schooling and the beautiful St. Augustine Catholic Church with the sun shining on the steeple. As we turned to head back north to the dam, literally out of nowhere a blowing rain attacked us. We laughed, huddled together, cooled off and then saw an incredible double rainbow. We made it to the north dam and to complete our cruise, a six foot alligator crossed our path.
We ended the evening with appetizers, gumbo and pecan cobbler. What a fun, wet , beautiful way to spend a Sunday evening with P.E.O. sisters.
