The mission of NGFHF is to preserve Louisiana’s French-Creole history and heritage and provide instruction to the general public on genealogical research techniques for French-Creole ancestry. Such instruction will be facilitated by regular lectures to the general public, sponsoring public displays and heritage tours, and “how-to” instructions on the NGFHF website. NGFHF will help preserve Louisia

na’s French-Creole history and heritage through various historical genealogical research projects to be provided to the general public. The proposed activities of NGFHF are charitable, literary, and educational within IRS rules. As such NGFHF will:

provides instruction to the general public on genealogical research techniques for French-Creole ancestry,

preserves Louisiana’s French-Creole history and heritage through various historical genealogical research projects to be provided to the general public,

sponsors public displays and heritage tours to benefit the general public, and

promote various other related activities for the general public. NGFHF does not and will not limit its activities to one particular family history or the descendants of a particular family. NGFHF will also accomplish its mission by maintaining a website with research techniques for French-Creole genealogical research, sponsoring exhibits at French-Creole events and gatherings, and through various historical genealogical research projects.

Creole Connections: Phillips, Goudeau, Ray, Metoyer, Rideau, Lacour, & Guidry
Recognize anyone? (Comment)

UPDATE 6/18- all six of the persons in the photograph are related through Metoyer and Goudeau blood. A grandson of Augustin Metoyer was Pierre Theodore (PT) Metoyer, who while attending school in Goudeau, Louisiana, met and married a descendent of the Goudeau founding families, Victoria Goudeau. They raised their family in Goudeau and are buried there.
PT and Victoria had several children. All of the six persons in the photograph are descendents (by blood or marriage) of three of their daughters - CLEMINCE, CLARA, & PERINE.

Left to right:
1. Doris Phillips Goudeau, wife of Deacon WB Goudeau, Jr. son of Ethel Lacour Goudeau and grandchild of sibling CLEMINCE Metoyer Lacour
2. Marie Ray Lacour (seated) - daughter of sibling CLARA Metoyer Ray
3. Sister Marie Antonia - daughter of sibling PERINE Metoyer Rideau
4. Theresa Lacour Rideau - daughter of sibling CLEMINCE Metoyer LaCour
5. Marilyn Goudeau Guidry - daughter of of Ethel Lacour Goudeau and grandchild of sibling CLEMINCE Metoyer Lacour
6. Belinda McCleese (Sister’s niece) daughter of Bernita “Boo” Rideau McCleese and grandchild of sibling PERINE Metoyer Rideau.

6/17th UPDATE: See comment from Joseph Balthazar Milon. ⚜️⚜️⚜️

Pending the location of my records, I want to share this photo of an early LaCour, Cane River Creole. In the original picture, he is joined by his brothers, I believe.
The photo was given to me by Alphonse “Bubba” Metoyer, and I believe this was a great uncle of his mother who was a Lacour. I can remember hearing the names of Valcour, Dorestan, and Seraphin.
I will update this posting when I find details, but the meantime, I wanted to share this amazing image of a man born in the 1800s celebrating what is believed to be his 100th birthday (see cake and candles)!
How I would love to ask him what was his secret to living a long life - certainly not modern western medicine! 😊
If anyone has additional specifics about this image, please feel free to share!

Believed to be a wedding photo, this postcard image was sent to Clemince Metoyer Lacour of Goudeau, Lousiana. She was sister of the groom - Eaton Metoyer.
On the back of the postcard was enscribed: “Your Old Bro, Eaton Metoyer and his wife Mrs. Mary (Ray). To Mrs. Eugene Lacour, Goudeau, La.”
From this couple emerged a large family of Metoyer-Ray descendants - many settled throughout Texas.

SECOND FROM LEFT - My grandmother, Sarah Ada Zenon (Guidry) was born a twin on Jan. 12th 1907 in the Grosse Isle community outside of Abbeville, Louisiana. Her parents were Adolph and Ophelia Huntsberry Zenon.
She married Whitney Guidry on April 9th, 1928 and they moved to Port Arthur, Texas where they raised a family of nine children - James, Raymond, Flora, Cliff, Charles, Wilbert, Gloria, Melvin, & Calvin. For both of them, their first language was French - they had to learn English.
Here Sarah Ada is with her siblings - her twin sister Edna on the left end. To the right is her older brother, Golden, and then, her youngest brother Cliff.

I believe it was 1965ish after the funeral of my great grandfather, Eugene Lacour Jr. of Goudeau, Lousiana. All of the cousins were playing and enjoying the country environment, taking rides on a horse, chasing chickens, and much more. The families decided it was time to take pictures on the porch. About 4 years old, I did not want to stop playing, so I was pouting.
My strong and faithful, great grandmother “Mamou” consoled me. She was always teaching, loving, and attentive. I have many touching memories, even at so young an age.
Clemince Metoyer Lacour was the great granddaughter of “Grandpere” Augustin Metoyer of Cane River. She was proud of her heritage, lived the culture, and knew the family history that had been faithfully passed on across the generations.
