HOW ABOUT A SALUTE FOR THIS YOUNG MAN!!

This young man is currently a junior at Alcorn State University, majoring in Computer Science. He is also a member of Tylertown First Baptist Church in Tylertown, Mississippi, where his faith as a man of God continues to guide his life. Ledarius is a young man on a mission, committed to his education, his faith, his family, and serving others.
That commitment to service has also led him to join the United States Army National Guard, where he currently holds the rank of Specialist (E-4). His military service reflects his dedication, discipline, teamwork, and willingness to accept responsibility. As a Specialist, he is expected to maintain military readiness, participate in training, follow military standards and lawful orders, care for assigned equipment, and work effectively with his fellow soldiers. His experience in the National Guard is helping him develop valuable leadership and life skills that he can carry into his education, career, and community.
He has recently been selected for induction into the National Honor Society at Alcorn State University, with the induction ceremony scheduled to take place in November. This recognition reflects his commitment to academic achievement, leadership, character, and service. He also volunteers with the Alcorn Battalion, where he continues to train. Beyond the scope of classes and work-study, he finds time to just relax with friends and play video games.
Giving back to his community is also important to Ledarius. Through his service to others, he participates in activities such as assisting with local food banks and food-distribution efforts, helping provide meals and essential items to families in need. Occasionally, when he is at home, he stops by the high school and lends support to the Wilkinson County High (track team), whereas he once participated and became a state champion. These experiences allow him to put his values of service, compassion, and responsibility into action.
He continues to build a promising future through education, military service, faith, community involvement, and family. This young man is the son of Calvin Sr. and Leticia Gaines of Woodville, MS and the recipient of the Leading Ladies Society Outstanding Student Scholarship, SFC Ledarius Elisha Gaines.

The Leading Ladies Society Motivational Scholarship honors a student who demonstrates academic achievement while serving the community they call home during college. Whether studying nearby or hundreds of miles away, the recipient gives back through volunteering and other meaningful acts of service. This scholarship celebrates a student who balances educational goals with compassion, leadership, and a sincere commitment to helping others. By leading through service, the recipient strengthens the community and inspires positive change.

This recipient is a Freshman at Co-Lin Community College in Wesson, MS, where he has begun his studies to receive a degree in Business and Finance. Throughout his high school years, he worked diligently to uphold the values of academic excellence, respect, and perseverance. These values have guided his actions in the classroom and beyond. He challenged himself academically while remaining committed to personal growth and responsibility.
As a member of his community, service has also been an important part of his commitment. He actively participated in food and clothing drives, literacy programs, and volunteer work through his church. These experiences have taught him the importance of giving back and staying connected to his community. Helping others has strengthened his character and reinforced his desire to create opportunities that uplift those around him.
He is proud to be a member of the National Honor Society, the Beta Club, and the ACT 20+ Club. He developed leadership skills, accountability, and a deeper understanding of service. Each opportunity has pushed him to set high standards for himself and to lead with integrity. Being surrounded by peers who share similar values has motivated him to strive for excellence in everything he does.
Basketball has also played a major role in shaping who he is today. As a dedicated student-athlete, he learned the importance of discipline, resilience, and teamwork. Basketball has taught him how to manage his time, handle pressure, and stay focused on long-term goals. These he will carry for the rest of his life.
Him majoring in Business and Finance—not as a backup plan, but as a strategic step toward his future. He is eager to learn about financial strategy, market dynamics, and entrepreneurship while being challenged academically and intellectually by professors and peers.
The quote, “How you do anything is how you do everything,” reflects a mindset that values discipline, consistency, and excellence. I believe that the effort and integrity we apply to small tasks ultimately shape our success in larger ones. By living by this principle, I am confident that I can achieve my goals and make a meaningful impact in the field of business.
This young man is the son of Mr. and Mrs. David and Yolanda Haywood, and he is the big brother to sisters Dior & Dloni Haywood. The grandson of Graddie Haywood and the late Estelle M. Fleming. Congratulations to the recipient of the first Tara C. James Exceptional Student Scholarship, Mr. Daylan Haywood.

The Tara C. James Exceptional Student Scholarship honors students who demonstrate academic excellence, an interest in justice and civic service, and an entrepreneurial spirit. Recipients should be committed to using their education, talents, and leadership to improve their communities. Tara C. James devoted her career to law enforcement and served as an educator, investigator, and dedicated community servant. She believed in doing all she could for the betterment of others and was truly a “village”, offering guidance, support, and service wherever needed. This scholarship celebrates students who are committed to continuing her indelible legacy of justice, leadership, and community service.

LET'S HEAR IT FOR MS. KING
Our recipient was born and raised here in Natchez, MS. She’s recent 2025 graduate of Natchez Early College and Copiah-Lincoln Community College earning multiple degrees. She is currently a student at Harvard College studying Molecular and Cellular Biology with a secondary degree in Global Health and Health Policy. At Harvard, this young lady serves as a Peer Advising Fellow and has multiple leadership roles in affinity spaces and in service-based organizations. After graduation, Angelica plans to attend medical school and eventually work in pediatrics. She is the daughter of Steven and Myra King and the recipient of the Lucille “Diva” Davis Academic Scholarship, Angelica King.

The Lucille “Diva” Davis Academic Scholarship honors young women pursuing degrees in mathematics, medicine, agriculture, science, engineering, technology, and other fields where women have long been underrepresented. Though our beloved matriarch, affectionately known as Madear, received no more than an eighth-grade education, she deeply understood its power to open doors and transform lives. In her honor, we encourage each recipient to move forward as a DIVA—with Determination, Integrity, Vision, and Achievement—and create a legacy of her own.

THE LEADING LADIES SOCIETY
As promised, we will be introducing you all to recipients of various scholarships that will be awarded during our 16 Annual Fall Gala, October 24, 2026.

This accomplished 20-year-old Biology Pre-Medical/Pre-Professional student from Port Gibson, Mississippi began her collegiate journey at Alcorn State University in August 2024 and is on track to graduate in December 2026 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology.
Throughout her time at Alcorn, she has distinguished herself through academic achievement, leadership, and service. She is actively involved in several prestigious organizations, including the National Society of Leadership and Success, Collegiate 100, and the Society for Collegiate Leadership and Achievement.
Her commitment to healthcare extends well beyond the classroom. She is a licensed pharmacy technician and will soon become a licensed phlebotomist, experiences that are preparing her for a promising career in science and healthcare.
Following graduation, she plans to gain professional experience in a laboratory setting, where she can further develop her scientific and research skills. She also intends to continue her education at Alcorn State University by pursuing a master’s degree in agriculture. Passionate about science, healthcare, service, and personal growth, she is committed to creating a successful future while continuing to learn, uplift others, and make her family proud.
She is the daughter of Ms. Cammie Smith and Mr. Jamaal Thomas and the granddaughter of Mr. Thomas Smith and the late Mrs. Margette Smith.

I wish I had the opportunity to sit with each one of you all individually and tell you about the passion that we have for what we do for the community. But being that I can't please take an opportunity to look through our page and go to our website to dig deeper into what we do with our community and for our community.
