Sweet Fiona is ready to find her forever family!

The Natchez Democrat Pet of the Week-Fiona is a 4-month-old grey and white brindle Mountain Cur mix who already has all the makings of an amazing companion. At just under 25 pounds, she still has some growing to do, but she is already the perfect size for a family looking for a pup to grow and adventure with.

Fiona is friendly, playful, smart, and eager to learn. She loves making new friends and is ready to build a special bond with her forever family. We think this gentle, loyal girl has so much love to give!

We appreciate that Hoofbeats and Pawprints Rescue has been recognized again by Best Friends Animal Society as a 2025 No-Kill Shelter. HPR is an animal RESCUE focusing on our relocation program, augmenting the work of other area animal shelters and helping pet owners/rescuers, always promoting education and the importance of spay/neuter along the way. "No-kill" is a core value at HPR. In our community that is way too full of homeless pets, HPR runs a shelter with an average daily census of 200 animals and we work to improve the lives of around 1,500 pets each year. We are grateful to be able to put a dent in the issue of homeless pets across the Miss-Lou. Our donors, transport partners, and very dedicated crew members are to thank for the privilege of being able to do this important work and our ability to maintain a "No-Kill" Animal Shelter status.

Photos are of some of the HPR crew members taken at 7:30 pm after working in 100 degree temperatures to make the 3rd transport of the week work! Very thankful for a busy transport week and for everyone's dedication to helping the shelter babies.

Update - happy to report that the senior hound has been reclaimed by her owner. He had been looking for her for a month.

This pretty hound recently arrived at HPR by special FedX delivery after being picked up on the road. At the time she was barely conscious, overheated, dehydrated and exhausted. We weren’t sure she could survive but she surprised us all and made a great recovery. Now she’s rested up and ready to go - is anyone looking for this baby? She is a senior dog and we believe she was picked up in the area of Emerald Mound Rd, Adams Co, MS. Please contact HPR if you recognize her. 601-303-0672

We heard from HPR Alumni, Goose, today. He was adopted in 2024 and is living his best life with an adoring family in Pennsylvania. Little guy on the right is Goose (called Tristan then) as a puppy before he left HPR to travel across the country in search of his family. That little 8 week old puppy had no idea of the good times that were in store for him. We appreciate his adoptive family for sharing the photo and for giving Goose a loving home!
