Kacie is a beautiful 2-year-old spayed Catahoula Leopard Dog mix with a unique tan coat sprinkled with a touch of merle that makes her truly one of a kind. But her sweet personality is what really shines.

This affectionate girl loves spending time with people, walks nicely on a leash, gets along wonderfully with other dogs, and is even gentle with cats. Kacie keeps her kennel clean when given regular potty breaks and is eager to learn and please her people.

If you could describe the past 2 months in one photograph, this might be it. Big, reckless world ---> big problems for small puppies (and a small nonprofit) to deal with. At HPR, we are seeing way too many homeless pets left in terrible situations and our goal is to provide as many of them as possible with a chance at a better future.

This spring we have had a record number of calls for help and we currently have 225 pets at our shelter and over 75 in foster care. Our hard working crew members have been putting in very long days to provide the care that these sheltered animals need. Good Samaritan rescuers turned foster parents have been a welcome resource and reminder that there still are some very kind people in our community.

HPR has become the primary intake shelter for the Miss-Lou and we are still in full-blown "spring mode" with requests for help coming in daily. When we cannot help through HPR, we do our best to provide information on other possible resources.

Meet adoptable Scooby!

Scooby is a very handsome 1-year-old neutered male Chocolate Lab and Pittie mix. He gets along with everyone, does well meeting new people, and enjoys the company of other dogs. Scooby is a quiet, easygoing boy who is just as happy heading out on an adventure as he is spending a relaxing day at home.

He also loves snacks and is hoping to find a special person to share them with.

Scooby is currently receiving heartworm treatment through Hoofbeats and Pawprints Rescue, and his treatment will continue at no cost after adoption.

Meet adoptable Georgia!

She is a super sweet, 1 year old, spayed female Pit Bull Terrier mix. She is playful, affectionate and gets along great with other dogs. Georgia grew up in a shelter and she can be a little shy around strangers and has limited experience in the "real world," but she really would love to experience a real home. When you pull out a leash or a treat, Georgia is ready to be your best friend and all in for adventures and romps. She is a crew favorite and has potential to be a great dog and just looking for a chance to prove herself.

Tate's resume includes being a discarded stray, 296 days a shelter dog at HPR (he was a very sweet boy every single day), crowd favorite and elected King of the 2026 Mardi Gras Pet Parade - and Tate just had his VERY BEST day! He was adopted! Thank you, Family!

Lots of nice dogs like Tate sit in shelters across the Miss-Lou and all of America, and many more remain homeless never being able to enter a rescue. We are thankful for the adopters who understand and love the "pitties".
