On Sunday, August 23, 2026, at 7:30 PM, NPFD 5 was dispatched to a woods fire on Good Hope Road. Upon arrival, members found a dead tree on fire, which resulted in approximately 2 acres of fire spreading into very dense vegetation.

To assess the situation more effectively, NPFD 1 deployed a drone to get a better view of the fire's extent. The Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry (LDAF) responded with a dozer to establish a fire line and prevent further spread.
Engine 10 and BR5 responded along with 5 NPFD 5 members.

Thanks to NPFD 1 for their assistance.

Conditions remain extremely dry, posing a significant risk for wildfires.

A burn ban is currently in effect for all of Natchitoches Parish.

On Wednesday, August 13, 2026, NPFD 5 was dispatched to a hazardous materials complaint in the Plantation Point subdivision. While en route, the call was upgraded to a structure fire.

Upon arrival, firefighters found an active attic fire in an occupied residential structure. The fire was quickly extinguished, with moderate water and smoke damage to the home.

There were no reported injuries.

Special thanks to NPFD6, for their quick and professional response to provide additional manpower and water supply.

NATCHITOCHES, LA – Due to continued extreme heat, prolonged drought conditions, and an elevated risk of wildfires, Natchitoches Parish President John Salter has officially issued a Parish-Wide Burn Ban, effective today, August 13, 2026.

A huge thank you to Jason Dewitt - State Representative District 25 for his hard work securing state appropriations funding for NPFD 5!

With the rising cost of firefighting equipment, this funding makes a real, life-saving difference for our firefighters and the community we serve.

Rep. DeWitt's diligence and dedication to public safety in our district is reflected by helping NPFD 5 be better equipped to protect lives and property.

Be aware of the heat danger over the next few days as temperatures rise.

The southern half of the ArkLaTex will see Major Heat Risk conditions today, with 'feels like' temperatures as high as 110-115 degrees, which will be hazardous to anyone without adequate cooling or hydration. After some brief relief, heat hazards may return early next week.
