🌟🔦✨📢 LEGENDS 2023 SPOTLIGHT ON Cassandra Wilson! Born and raised in Jackson, MS, Cassandra always had a passion for music. She began writing songs in her youth. After she graduated from MSU she joined a cooperative organization, M-Base, that experimented with jazz, hip-hop, rap, and funk and became their vocalist. She began writing her own songs which resulted in commercial and musical success.

🌟🔦✨📢 LEGENDS 2023 SPOTLIGHT ON Ora Reed! Born and raised in the delta, Ora Reed conquered the piano at the same time she conquered her ABCs. Reed always had a passion for music and this led to her traveling the world spreading her musical journey to places like Brazil, Canada, Japan, Malaysia, and the United Arab Emirates. In 2017, Reed became an inductee for the Mississippi Musicians Hall of Fame, received the Mississippi Trailblazers Legacy Award, and was Mississippi’s Cultural Ambassador. She also served as Grand Marshal for the Martin Luther King Jr. Parade in Jackson, MS.

Because of his relatives, Hart was influenced in his youth by the Mississippi Country Blues. He is known to be a torchbearer for 1960s and 70s guitar rock and traditional country. In the early 2000s, Hart’s album “Down in the Alley” was nominated for Grammy Award for Best Traditional Blues Album.

🌟🔦✨📢 LEGENDS 2023 SPOTLIGHT ON YZ Ealey! As he states in every performance, YZ Ealey is just “tryin’ to keep the Blues alive.”
He was mentored by his older brother, David, and received his first guitar from him. He began performing at local juke joints as a teenager. He performed in a band, YZ Ealey and the Merry Makers, with his brother in the early 1960s. They later became recording artists.
YZ continued to perform straight blues like B.B. King, Little Milton, and Albert King in the 1970s. In 2011, he and his brothers were honored with a historical marker on the Mississippi Blues Trail.

🌟🔦✨📢 LEGENDS 2023 SPOTLIGHT ON Dorothy Moore! A twice Grammy-nominated Mississippi songbird vocalist. Dorothy Moore spent all her life in and around Jackson, Mississippi. Raised by her great-grandmother, Dorothy grew up listening to Mahalia Jackson, Gladys Knight, and Aretha Franklin. At the age of 13, she won a talent contest singing “Today I Sing the Blues”. After high school, she formed a vocal trio, Poppies. Due to her flexible range and richness, Moore was called to sing backgrounds on countless recording sessions: “Pickin Wild Mountain Berries” by Peggy Scott, “Groove Me” by King Floyd, “She’s Taken My Part” by Irma Thomas, and many more.

🌟🔦✨📢 LEGENDS 2023 SPOTLIGHT ON Hound Dog Taylor! Theodore Roosevelt Taylor was born in Natchez, MS. in 1942, He moved to Chicago where he worked the clubs and market on Maxwell Street. In the 60s Taylor and the HouseRockers, his band, toured North America and even parts of Europe. Even though he didn’t live that long to see his reputation grow with him, many live albums and other compilations have been posted posthumously.
