IRES friends & family — we have some exciting news and need your help!! 🚨

We were able to get this shelter for the sanctuary, and we are SO grateful! ❤️ It will be a wonderful addition to the farm and give our residents some much-needed extra shelter and space.

Now we just need to get it here! 🚜

The shelter is located in Cohasset and will require a skid steer and a heavy-duty trailer to haul it to the sanctuary in Nashwauk.

Is there anyone in our IRES community who may be able to help us with transportation or has access to the equipment needed? We would be incredibly grateful! 🙏

A little garden with a big purpose! 🐝

This year, we’ve been making an effort to bring more pollinators to the sanctuary by creating spaces where bees, butterflies, and other important pollinators can thrive. 🐝🦋🌸

And tucked away at the back of our manure pile is a little pumpkin patch we planted especially for the pigs and goats! 🎃

With all this recent rain, the pumpkin vines have absolutely taken off! We’re excited to watch them grow and hopefully have a nice pumpkin harvest for the animals this fall.

We’ve also been asked if we’ll accept extra locally grown produce that might otherwise go to waste—and YES, we will! 🍎🥕 Our horses love apples and carrots, while the pigs and goats are always happy to help with fresh fruits and veggies.

If you have extra locally grown produce, send us a message before it goes to waste. We’d love to give it a second purpose! 💚

Meet the Mini Monday: Penny 💕🎂

Today is a VERY special day for our sweet Penny! She is celebrating her golden birthday — 31 years old! 🎂
And today also marks 2 years as an IRES girl. 💕

When Penny arrived at Iron Range Equine Sanctuary, she was underweight and had significant dental needs. Bloodwork revealed that Penny has Cushing’s, and her first dental float showed just how much specialized care her mouth needed.

Penny saw a dental specialist and had multiple teeth removed. She had another problematic tooth removed last fall, and her dental care continues to be something we monitor closely. 🦷💕

Penny also struggles with hauling and stressful situations. At 31 years old, we have learned that the kindest thing we can do is meet Penny where she is — giving her patience, consistency, and a calm environment where she feels safe. ❤️

And if you know Penny, you know she has plenty of personality to go along with all of that! 😂

She is truly the kindest-spunkiest soul. She has a BIG personality packed into a tiny body and absolutely no problem letting you know exactly what she thinks. 👑💕

Over the past two years, Penny has found something she deserves more than anything — stability. A safe place where she can grow older surrounded by familiar faces, good care, mini friends, and people who love her exactly as she is.

Penny is a forever member of IRES, and we are so incredibly grateful she found her way here. 🥹💗

We’re excited to be creating a cookbook filled with recipes from our supporters, along with fun facts and stories about the animals who call Iron Range Equine Sanctuary home. 🤍

The cookbook will also feature a special section highlighting some of our amazing local friends and organizations who support our mission and offer help throughout our community.

We’ve started trying out grain feed bags with PorkChop and Cowboy, and they are LOVING them!

These two were more than happy to be our test subjects. It’s safe to say they’ve given the new feeding method their approval! 😂
