Pionero Scholars Program - Lipscomb

Pionero Scholars Program - Lipscomb PIONEROS are trailblazers, leading the way for their families and communities.

Pioneros, or pioneers in English, are those who dedicate themselves to a craft and it is their actions that speak the loudest in their commitment to excellence. The Pionero Scholars Program, founded in 2015 by Lipscomb’s College of Education with the support of a local charitable foundation, seeks to address the gap between the number of immigrant and refugee students and teachers in our local sch

ool district. Pionero Scholars are first generation students who graduated from local public high schools. Pionero Scholars receive an academic scholarship to Lipscomb University, with the long-term goal of becoming licensed teachers who will return to teach in their own community. Based on Lipscomb’s values of Community, Innovation, and Service, the Pionero Scholars Program is the first of its kind in Nashville and is based upon the belief that teachers who share a linguistic and cultural background with their students have a unique role to play in urban schools.
