This season, we have focused exclusively on celebrating the work of local composers, performers, and artists - because supporting and showcasing the best of Nashville’s creativity is a vital part of our mission.

Tennessee Arts Commission funding helps to make this work possible, and their specialty license plate program is the fuel that supports chatterbird alongside hundreds of others annually. With the current federal cuts to arts funding, this program is more important than ever.

Purchase your own specialty plate or share this post to raise awareness about this very special program! Either way, you will make a valuable difference in the arts for your community. To learn more, visit www.tnspecialtyplates.org.

Join JayVe Montgomery for the Nashville premiere of Lake Black Town at Darkhorse Theater on Wednesday, May 28, at 7 PM.

This performance shares the fruit of a yearlong field recording project focused on capturing the sounds and history of the “drowned towns” of historic Black communities found throughout the Southeastern United States.

Why the short notice? Due to the unexpected termination of a National Endowment for the Arts grant, this concert had to be scheduled prior to the spend-down deadline of May 31. We’re excited to partner with Darkhorse Theater – who stepped up to host this event with a very quick turnaround – and we hope you will join us for the concluding portion of this important project.

The concert, focused on themes of displacement and land; identity, spirit, and belonging; freedom and evolution, is produced in collaboration with chatterbird, a Nashville-based chamber ensemble, where Montgomery is Composer in Residence.

It’s offered on a pay-your-wage sliding scale basis. All funds raised from ticket sales will benefit the Sameer Project, a grassroots aid organization that is providing thousands of meals, fresh water, and medical supplies to families and children in Gaza.

Thanks in particular to Metro Arts: Nashville Office of Arts + Culture, New Music USA, and Alternate ROOTS for the financial support of this project, and of chatterbird, which helped to make this presentation possible.
