Meet Karen Coffee, the fourth of our 2026 Black Philanthropy Month Gamechangers.

As vice president of the Jefferson Street Sound Museum, Karen helps preserve the musical and civil rights history of Historic Jefferson Street. Her leadership helped make the museum an official stop on the U.S. Civil Rights Trail, bringing national attention to an important part of Nashvilleโ€™s story.

For the second year in a row, Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee has awarded more than $1 million in scholarships to students pursuing higher education.

This year, CFMT awarded scholarships to 361 students across the region. More than half of those recipients, 60%, are renewal students continuing their education with support from scholarships they previously received through CFMT.

Kelly Pietkiewicz, scholarships senior manager at CFMT, believes that the scholarship program is not only helping students begin college, but also helping support them throughout their academic journey.

โ€œWe want our scholarship awards to not just be transactional, but transformative,โ€ said Pietkiewicz. โ€œWe know by helping students secure this funding year after year, we are not just their financial partner, but also a community partner that wants them to succeed.โ€

Another update!! Dolly's kindness keeps adding up. ๐Ÿงก

Visit Music City and Project 615 have given $25,000 to Give Like Dolly โ€“ Middle Tennessee from sales of the Spread Love It's The Dolly Way t-shirt. Their gift goes to Give a Child a Library of Their Own, which supports the Imagination Library of Middle Tennessee.

That brings the Give a Child a Library of Their Own total to $71,773, which means more books in the hands of young readers across our region. The overall campaign total is now $259,380.40, raised in honor of Dolly Parton.

Thank you to Visit Music City, Project 615, and everyone who bought a shirt and spread a little love. And one more shout out to Amazon, the Tennessee Titans and Titans Foundation for their generous gifts to Give Like Dolly.

As a boy, Rocky sang in the choir and served as a children's usher, all while silently carrying the weight of childhood sexual abuse. Today, he's working to make sure faith communities recognize the signs and never miss the chance to help a child heal.

โค๏ธ Highlighting the program that's giving a child a library of their own.

It started with a simple wish: give children books of their own and help them dream bigger. Through Dolly Parton's Imagination Library of Middle Tennessee, children from birth to age five receive a free book in the mail every month, addressed to them and ready to be opened and shared.

Last year, more than 50,000 Middle Tennessee children received more than 510,000 books.
