The Mohegan Tribe purchased its WNBA franchise for $10 million in 2003, becoming the first Tribal Nation to own a professional sports team. Over 24 seasons, the Connecticut Sun connected generations of Tribal citizens and gave Mohegan people a platform to share their language, culture and values with the league and its fast growing fan base. The Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe recently broke ground on its new early childhood center, which will welcome children from six weeks to five years old. The 6,650-square-foot facility will feature classrooms, a “flex room” for community events with parents and teachers and trainings, and built-in kitchenettes. The center's anticipated completion date is September 2027.

The Penobscot Nation is celebrating the return of about 11,000 acres of its ancestral homeland around the Penobscot River. The land return is the first phase of a larger project to give the Tribal Nation back around 30,000 acres just south of the Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument. When the swath of land came up for sale more than three years ago, the Trust for Public Land bought it from timber harvesters and is now working with the Tribal Nation to raise money for the buy back.

In what is the first phase of a land return project between the Penobscot Nation and the Trust for Public Land, the tribe has taken back a large swath of land just south of the Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument.

At the Catawba Cultural Center, the Catawba Indian Nation has created a microcosm of an 18th-century Tribal community. The Catawba Life Exhibit features replicas of the structures and workspaces that would’ve existed at the time.

Catawba Nation is preparing for the general public to see its Life Exhibit, which will showcase traditional practices and storytelling presented in a replica of an 18th-century settlement.
