Here are some quotes from this week's article titled Tourist Vehicles Create Traffic Problems Downtown. You don't say??
Infuriating Quote Number One:
"The pedal taverns are not currently licensed or regulated. The Metro Transportation Licensing Commission is working on legislation to give the moving taverns similar rules as taxis."
Why in the name of Jimmie Cricket's Stupid Little Brother would we want to legislate Tourist Trolleys (AKA Pedal Taverns) like Taxis? What do they have in common with a taxi other than having wheels? Not a damn thing.
Infuriating Quote Number Two:
"While the pedal taverns are becoming more of a familiar site in downtown Nashville, watching 10 people pedal and drink can still be an attraction for a driver stuck behind one. They are usually in the car videotaping or high-fiving us or honking at the girls,” Lepoutre said. “They can always pass us pretty easy.”
Stop your lies Lepoutre! No one has ever been excited to see a dinky pedal tavern hobbling down Nashville's roads. If drivers take pictures its either bbecause Melissa's orange thong is hanging out of her seven jeans again or they took the picture as a quick accompaniment to a text that reads "I fu***ng hate Nashville all of a sudden and I kind of want to die a little." Seeing a pedal tavern in front of you while driving is not a non-issue. Its like seeing your creepy neighbor walking towards you -you can't believe it. This is the third time today he's walked past you -so slowly and so intentionally - Its like he's got no where else to go - his thong is hanging out of his seven jeans - it makes you feel really uncomfortable and you really want to die a little.
I don't want pedal taverns to be a familiar site in Nashville. It hurts my heart to read that. But as bad as the situation may be, and it is bad, its never as bad as these operators want us to believe it is.

A flood of vehicles catering to tourists has added more congestion and sometimes danger in downtown Nashville.
