We are super stoked to announce our SUMMER STARGAZING NIGHTS!

We at LYAA (Light-Year Astronomical Association) were invited to do these eventful nights after our amazing event with the lovely Faye Wilson Books at Thornton Library with our astronomer Rebekah Denton’s astronomical presentation. However, these events will be at the Granville County Library System’s Berea Branch Library in NC! We couldn’t be anymore excited! (Address, dates and times attached below on poster)

We will talk, look over astronomical records, and show you ways around all sorts of telescopes!

Rebekah Leigh Denton will be in attendance and if all goes well with both events we plan on expanding, and possibly doing this on a schedule with libraries in the area as they request it!

Please if you are interested in hosting the Mobile Observatory at your event or a place in your community - Reach out! We love serving the underrepresented communities that are passionate about STEM. If any place or community is interested always reach out through our Facebook and Lead Astronomer’s email: ([email protected]).

We look forward to serving your community Berea Branch Library!

Clear Skies!
- Rebekah Leigh Denton

All of us at LYAA want to wish our astronauts (Koch, Wiseman, Glover, and Hansen) on Artemis II a safe flight and journey to the moon!

This is a huge milestone in humankind’s history, and mission to leave our mark in the cosmos. We are returning to the moon, and leaving behind all the fears of previous generations. With a new generation comes new missions, new ideas, and new goals awaiting us.

The moon is a witness to the creation of the solar system and Earth itself. Therefore going there, as well as harnessing that knowledge is vital to scientific understanding and discovery.

This space generation will go to BACK to the Moon and build a future for humankind’s presence permanently on the moon, we will go to Mars and establish human presence there as well, and achieve great things in doing that it will be accelerating mankind in its technological advancement and development as a species.

We couldn’t be prouder of all you brave astronauts! Also we couldn’t be prouder of the men, women, and various individuals who poured their hearts, souls, and minds into the development of SLS and the ability to launch these missions.

Go Artemis!

Clear Skies and Godspeed.

What a wonderful night at Thornton Library (Granville County Library System) with Ms. Faye Wilson Books! Her book signing rocked! So many curious citizens wanted to know all about Science, Sci-Fi, and Astronomy!

Our senior astronomer Rebekah rocked her presentation and due to there being cloud cover she showed various images we had taken before with the telescope (Evscope 1) and showed off the telescope that SETI Institute and Unistellar donated last year! 🙂

We plan to do more events in Granville county at the local library system for stargazing and so on!

Light-Year Astronomical Association would like to announce that we and our Senior Astronomer Rebekah Denton (Leigh Halley) will be at the Richard H. Thornton Library on January 14th, 2026 at 6PM (Oxford, NC) for Faye Peacock-Wilson's book event for her new Sci-Fi thriller "The Rescue: Survival Beyond The Stars"

Rebekah (our senior astronomer) will be giving a presentation about how the importance of Science Fiction is absolutely vital for exploring what is possible in the reality of future science discoveries, technology, and of course inspiring the next generation of STEM and STEAM leaders. We will also give a Night-Sky tour (weather permitting).

So, if you live near Oxford, NC/Henderson, NC, please feel free to show support to this amazing author and our Senior Astronomer as this is a very special presentation that means a lot to her considering she was inspired by science-fiction herself through various outlets such as books and writing.

Light-Year is proud to say this year we’ve spent our assets and annual budget on: The Nash County Food Pantry in Spring Hope, The Middlesex Children’s home, and also doing a coat drive and donating 15 coats to those who have none for the winter. We love you Nash county, Wilson, and Edgecombe!

If you can think of more ways for us to serve besides through STEM we’d love to hear your ideas! We help each other and stick together! - The Team at LYAA

The team at Light-Year Astronomical Association is currently shopping for gifts for the children’s home for this holiday season! We’re currently gathering books and educational toys for the older children, necessities for the infants, and STEM developmental toys for the babies! ❤️

Spread some cheer and support your local children and underfunded communities through gifts, STEM, and education. - Senior Astronomer, Rebekah (Leigh Halley) Denton.

During our winter events of exploring the cosmos in person and while also live-streaming, Light-Year Astronomical Association plans to host a coat drive!

If you are unable to afford a coat or want to donate to someone in need - We will be accepting donations of coats for our winter events, and also handing them out to families in need who come to our "Explore The Cosmos" events in winter!

We love our communities in NC, and want to keep them warm and fed as much as possible. Please consider donating a coat or coming to an event near if you need a coat!

Learn more by reaching out to [email protected] or by checking our our website which will be updated soon with details (https://www.lightyearastronomy.org)!

Light-Year Astronomical Association is proud to take care of its community and families in the community. We are glad to share we took 60% of all donations received and donated them and canned goods to the local community food pantries in Nash County and surrounding areas for North Carolina during this time of need in the community.

Our Senior Astronomer Rebekah Leigh Denton (Halley) is very passionate about supporting and helping those in need and those who need food, supplies, and education will always be at the top of her list. We encourage you to take your time and go to your local pantries and donate canned goods or money to support those in need during this time of uncertainty in our country.

600,000 children and 40,000 of which being infants in North Carolina are at risk of having no food support and services to help them from the government due to SNAP. Please take the time to think about what you could donate and how you could help! If you’re unsure just donate a dollar and it will go a long way!

We love you Nash, Edgecombe, & Wilson and we are here to support you through STEM, education, charity and community.

Written with Love,
- Rebekah Leigh Denton (Halley) 💙
