Every year, tens of thousands of Nashville families face eviction.

And when they do, most face it alone. They’re up against landlords with attorneys, complex legal processes, and a system that was never designed with them in mind.

That’s not just a housing crisis. It’s a public one.

When Nashville invests in eviction defense, the entire city benefits. For every $1 spent on the Eviction Right to Counsel Program, Davidson County sees $4.18 in return. That’s in shelter costs avoided, in families that stay housed, in neighborhoods that stay stable.

That guest policy in your lease matters more than you may think. Before someone moves in or stays long-term, make sure you know the rules and get any necessary approval in writing.

We envision a Nashville where everyone can thrive in safe, affordable housing, free from the fear of eviction, with a stable place to call home.

One of our paralegals, Ellie Campbell, was featured in WPLN’s coverage of Metro’s annual budget hearing.

Since joining our team in 2022, Ellie has worked directly with renters facing eviction. Alongside other Eviction Right to Counsel staff, she spoke before Metro Council about why access to legal representation is critical for Nashville families facing housing instability.

As Ellie shared, “Beyond the human impact, this is a fiscally responsible investment.” Keeping families housed helps prevent the costly impacts of displacement while strengthening our community.

Thank you to for highlighting this important conversation and the need for continued investment in Nashville renters.

A few of our colleagues from the ERTC Coalition attended yesterday’s Metro Council meeting to advocate for increased funding for Eviction Right to Counsel.

We are especially grateful to Michelle, Social Work Director for the Nashville Hispanic Bar Association’s ERTC program, who spoke about the critical role eviction defense services play in keeping Nashville families housed and stable.

As Michelle shared, “Eviction is not just a housing issue, it is a justice issue, a public health issue, and an economic issue.”

We are hopeful that Metro will continue investing in this vital program so we can expand access to legal representation and continue serving Nashville renters when they need it most.

Pride is about more than celebration. It’s about making sure everyone in our community knows they are seen and supported.

While our work centers on tenant rights and housing stability, we know that stable housing is just one piece of what it takes to thrive. We wanted to highlight some incredible local and national organizations doing vital work for LGBTQ+ young people in Nashville and beyond.

— creating safe, affirming spaces for LGBTQ+ young adults right here in our city

— connecting at-risk youth with caring adults and a secure environment

— free, confidential crisis support for LGBTQ+ young people, available 24/7

Meet Shasmy Daly! We are so excited to welcome her to the ERTC team as our legal intern this summer.

Shasmy Daly is a 2L at Vanderbilt Law School with a background rooted in both lived experience and hands-on legal work. Originally from the Dominican Republic, she relocated to the United States in 2018 to pursue her education, and spent the following five years building a career in the legal field in Florida, working as a court specialist, felony courtroom clerk, legal assistant, and paralegal.

In 2025, she moved to Nashville to pursue her JD at Vanderbilt, bringing with her a deep familiarity with the legal system and a commitment to using that knowledge in service of others. Fluent in English and Spanish, Shasmy is passionate about ensuring that language is never a barrier to accessing justice.

Outside of law school, she enjoys cooking, writing, and exploring Nashville with her adopted dog and kitten.

We couldn’t be more thrilled to have her. Welcome, Shasmy!
