Age Well Middle Tennessee

Age Well Middle Tennessee We believe that as more of us live longer, we have an exciting opportunity to reimagine our community to ensure we can age well.

For 40 years, we’ve had the privilege of being a unique nonprofit in Middle Tennessee, serving as a champion for older adults and the area’s catalyst for collaborative solutions. Founded as the Council on Aging of Greater Nashville in 1985, we’ve enjoyed working with older adults, family caregivers, and professionals from across the region to provide trusted information and assistance, develop col

laborative solutions to unmet needs, and advocate for needed services and support. We’re proud to say that we’ve assisted hundreds of thousands of older adults and caregivers through our helpline and comprehensive print and online Directory of Services, and we’ve addressed unmet needs by creating and launching new, enduring programs like Living at Home, Discover Williamson and Senior Ride Nashville. None of these things would have been possible without countless volunteers, partner agencies, funders and supporters. To each of you, we offer our sincere thanks & appreciation! We’re optimistic about the future that we are shaping together, and we’re more excited than ever about working with you to ensure we can all age well!

🎂 Happy 60th Birthday, Grace Smith!

For 10 years, Grace has led AgeWell Middle Tennessee with an unwavering commitment to the older adults in our community — those who need a champion, a voice, and a friend in the fight.

As Sage Honoree Mike Fussell said it best: "60? Well, you're just getting started!"

Grace, we are so grateful for your tireless advocacy and the countless lives you've touched. Here's to you — and to your next 60! 🎉

AgeWell's Rebecca Redd, LMSW, Eldercare Coach and Directory Manager, enjoyed meeting with social workers and other professionals at the Time Out Workshop — one of Middle Tennessee's most popular continuing education events.

The Time Out Workshop, hosted by Johnson McGinnis Elder Care Law, is a workshop that examines issues relevant to social workers and other professionals who serve older adults and people with disabilities. It's a great opportunity for professional growth and practical tools you can put to use right away.

We had the honor of hosting the monthly Intentional Older Adults Group at the AgeWell office yesterday!

Thank you to Jeff Wamble and Nicole Rucker from Metropolitan Social Services for speaking to us about the resources they offer for older adults in our community. Connecting people to the right support is at the heart of what we do — and gatherings like this make that possible.

We loved supporting Rebuilding Together Nashville at their Building Community Brunch.

Their work — home repairs and modifications that allow older adults to safely age in place — is exactly the kind of solution our community needs more of.

Former Mayor Bill Purcell offered an important perspective on affordable housing in Nashville, and it's one worth repeating: the best way to preserve affordable housing is to keep the housing we already have.

Read below for tips from our friends at Greater Nashville Regional Council.

🛡️ It’s Medicare Fraud Prevention Week!

This week is all about helping older adults, caregivers, and families learn how to prevent, detect, and report Medicare fraud. Scammers are constantly finding new ways to target beneficiaries, but together we can help protect ourselves and our communities.

Be sure to follow the SMP National Resource Center for tips, resources, and simple ways you can help stop fraud before it happens.

📝To report suspected Medicare fraud, contact your local Senior Medicare Patrol by calling 1-877-808-2468 or visit smpresource.org to find your state's SMP program.

📞 Need free, unbiased Medicare counseling? Call Tennessee SHIP at 1-877-801-0044 to connect with a counselor near you, or learn more at GNRC's Medicare Counseling program.

The best things about aging well? There are a lot of them. 😊

Today is National Smile Day — and we're thinking about all the things that make life worth smiling about at every age.

A phone call from a grown kid. A familiar face at the senior center. Getting an answer to a question that's been keeping you up at night.

At AgeWell Middle Tennessee, we show up so older adults and their families have the information, connections, and support they need to navigate aging with confidence. From personalized guidance through Eldercare Coach to financial empowerment through RESET to our Directory of Services — we exist to make life a little lighter.

What's making you smile today? Tell us. 👇

May has been a beautiful reminder of something we believe every single day: older adults make our community stronger. 💙

As Older Americans Month comes to a close, we're grateful for everyone who shared a post, watched a webinar, scheduled an Eldercare Coach call, or simply paused to champion their health this month.

The work doesn't stop on June 1 — and neither do we. If you or someone you love needs support navigating aging or caregiving, AgeWell is here year-round.

The 2026 Sage Awards season is officially underway. 🎉

On May 12, we gathered for our kickoff luncheon to celebrate this year's remarkable Sage Award honorees — Patty Bearden, Ed Cole, Mike Fussell, Charles Kimbrough Sr., Ruth Mitchell, and Brent Poulton. Lunch was good, the conversation was better, and the chance to sit across the table from people who have given so much to this community? That's what this is all about.

Since 1991, the Sage Awards have recognized older adults whose lifelong service has made Middle Tennessee a better place to live. This year's honorees are no exception. We can't wait for you to hear their stories at the luncheon on October 1 at the Franklin Marriott Cool Springs.

Save the date - October 1— and stay tuned for more on all six honorees as we count down to the big day. 💙
