Happy Birthday to our Marketing & Communications Manager, Sara Kellum! 🎂

Sara joined the AgeWell Middle Tennessee team in January, and in just nine months, she's become the voice behind so much of the meaningful work we share with the world. Her dedication to telling AgeWell's story shows in everything she creates.

And here's our favorite thing about Sara's birthday this year: she's genuinely excited about getting older — because every day she gets to work alongside people doing extraordinary things in their 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s. That's the AgeWell effect. 💛

Happy Birthday to our Development Manager, Kennedy Moldenhauer! 🎂

Kennedy joined the AgeWell Middle Tennessee team in January, and she's already made her mark in a big way. Most recently, she helped bring the 2026 Sage Awards to life — our annual celebration honoring six remarkable older adults whose lifelong service has shaped Middle Tennessee. It was a beautiful event, and Kennedy was a big part of making it a success. Kennedy's spunky can do attitude and bright smile encourages others to be more involved in making a difference in our community.

Today is Ageism Awareness Day.

What is Ageism? Ageism refers to the stereotypes (how we think), prejudice (how we feel) and discrimination (how we act) towards others or oneself based on age. Ageism shows up in everyday assumptions, jokes, policies, and systems – often without people realizing it and the impact can be felt across the lifespan. But we CAN change that.

At AgeWell Middle Tennessee, we believe every person deserves to age with dignity, respect, and the essential supports and services they need to thrive. This week we join with the American Society on Aging and many others to shine a light on what ageism looks like and how we can all work together to end it.

What an amazing day for the AgeWell community!

The Sage Awards brought together so many wonderful friends of AgeWell, as well as supporters for our fantastic honorees. Congratulations to Patty Bearden, Ed Cole, Mike Fussell, Charles Kimbrough, Ruth Mitchell, and Brent Poulton for being recognized for their lifelong commitment to community service. Congratulations, as well, to the AgeWell Ambassadors Council for receiving the Elizabeth Jacobs Distinguished Service Award.

The fireside chat with AgeWell Executive Director, Grace Sutherland Smith, and the Sage Honorees was especially memorable with moments that continue to stick with us. When asked for a piece of wisdom, quote, motto or mindset to leave with the audience, there were some great responses:
- We are the people we've been waiting for.
- It's not what you can do that matters, but what you get done.
- The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you figure out what you are supposed to do.
