Yesterday, NHBW, Inc., Nashville Chapter proudly attended and supported the Book'em Annual Breakfast. Book'em’s mission is vital to our city, "creating a more literate Nashville and sparking a lifelong passion for reading through book ownership and volunteer engagement." We fully support their vision of a community where every child owns books and experiences the value of literacy firsthand. The event featured a powerful keynote address by Christina Soontornvat, an acclaimed author of over a dozen children's books. We extend our deepest gratitude to Book'em for 37 years of impactful service and for continually providing free books to our communities.

Nashville family, join the National Hook-Up of Black Women, Inc., Nashville Chapter during the Annual African Street Festival for our Laps for Literacy walk! We are stepping out to promote the incredible power of reading, build community, and shape brighter futures.

After our walk around the park, make sure to stop by the North Nashville Arts Coalition Children’s Area. We are hosting a massive BOOK GIVEAWAY so children and families can take home a new story of their own!

What a beautiful and inspiring day with the National Hook-Up of Black Women, Inc. at our retreat!

Our theme, RECOMMIT. REIGNITE. RECONNECT., truly came to life as we spent the day strengthening our sisterhood, learning, sharing, and renewing our commitment to the communities we serve.

A special highlight was an informative presentation from the Metro Public Health Department focused on food, nutrition, and learning how to grow our own food. It was a wonderful reminder of the importance of healthy food access, sustainability, and giving our communities the knowledge and tools to become more self-sufficient.

Community service activity included collecting school supplies for Napier. Our lunch was provided by JOY Kitchen-Sandwich Lab.

It was a beautiful day of sisterhood, education, laughter, reflection, and growth.

Today, we proudly cast our ballots during the Women Vote Early event hosted by the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc., Metropolitan Nashville Chapter, alongside several community organizations across Nashville. Not even the rain could stop us from fulfilling our civic duty and advocating for our communities. Every vote is our voice, and through that voice, we have the power to shape the future and create the change we want to see.
Democracy is strongest when we participate. Let's continue to show up, speak up, and vote.
Saturday, August 1, is the last day to vote early. Make a plan, bring a friend, and let your voice be heard!

On Thursday, July 23, members of the National Hook-Up of Black Women, Nashville chapter worked with students enrolled in the J C Napier summer program to create STEM projects. An estimated 25 students between the ages of 6 and 15 participated in making bubble machines, lamps, crystal growing and creating colorful volcanos. At the conclusion of the activity, students were provided treats for their exceptional work.

Our Summer Reading Series came to a wonderful close with a special storytime led by Erica Hall, joined by President Tatman! 📚🤎

Erica read Kindness Makes Us Strong by Sophie B**r, a heartwarming children's book that celebrates the many ways we can show kindness every day. Through colorful illustrations and simple examples, the story teaches children that even the smallest acts—sharing, helping a friend, offering encouragement, or simply saying hello—can make a big difference and help build stronger friendships and communities.

To make our final reading session even sweeter, Erica treated all of the children to cool pops after the story, creating the perfect ending to a fun-filled summer of reading, learning, and growing together! 🍧📖

A heartfelt thank you to Erica Hall and President Tatman for helping us wrap up our Summer Reading Series with a meaningful reminder that kindness truly makes us strong. 🤎
