Today, we proudly cast our ballots during the Women Vote Early event hosted by the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc., Metropolitan Nashville Chapter, alongside several community organizations across Nashville. Not even the rain could stop us from fulfilling our civic duty and advocating for our communities. Every vote is our voice, and through that voice, we have the power to shape the future and create the change we want to see.
Democracy is strongest when we participate. Let's continue to show up, speak up, and vote.
Saturday, August 1, is the last day to vote early. Make a plan, bring a friend, and let your voice be heard!

On Thursday, July 23, members of the National Hook-Up of Black Women, Nashville chapter worked with students enrolled in the J C Napier summer program to create STEM projects. An estimated 25 students between the ages of 6 and 15 participated in making bubble machines, lamps, crystal growing and creating colorful volcanos. At the conclusion of the activity, students were provided treats for their exceptional work.

Our Summer Reading Series came to a wonderful close with a special storytime led by Erica Hall, joined by President Tatman! 📚🤎

Erica read Kindness Makes Us Strong by Sophie Beer, a heartwarming children's book that celebrates the many ways we can show kindness every day. Through colorful illustrations and simple examples, the story teaches children that even the smallest acts—sharing, helping a friend, offering encouragement, or simply saying hello—can make a big difference and help build stronger friendships and communities.

To make our final reading session even sweeter, Erica treated all of the children to cool pops after the story, creating the perfect ending to a fun-filled summer of reading, learning, and growing together! 🍧📖

A heartfelt thank you to Erica Hall and President Tatman for helping us wrap up our Summer Reading Series with a meaningful reminder that kindness truly makes us strong. 🤎

The National Hook‑Up of Black Women, Nashville Chapter successfully completed another reading event at the Kirkpatrick Community Center. First Vice President Dr. Sandra Williams read "I Am Every Good Thing" to a group of 13 students ranging from 2nd to 6th grade. The book offered powerful affirmations designed to build confidence and self‑worth. Although written with Black boys in mind, its message resonated equally with the young girls in attendance, all of whom eagerly shared their professional aspirations—including becoming a lawyer, athlete, military professional, and teacher.

The story encouraged students to engage in self‑reflection as a means of celebrating their strengths and individuality. At the conclusion of the session, students received cool pops and assorted candy in recognition of their outstanding participation.

The Nashville Chapter of the National Hook-up of Black Women, Inc. (NHBW) hosted its 52nd Founders’ Day celebration at Sedona Taphouse. In honor of the organization’s 1970s origins, members wore vibrant, era-appropriate attire to mark the milestone.
Centered around the theme Rooted in Resilience, the event underscored NHBW’s mission to honor its history with gratitude while continuing to lead, advocate, and serve Black women, their families, and the wider community.
The chapter extends its deepest appreciation to Keynote Speaker Dr. Crystal Banks for her inspiring address, and to Charter Member Sister Luvenia Harrison for offering her special remarks. Additional thanks are given to Sister Helen Sharp for providing the event's gift bags, and to all Nashville Chapter members for their continued dedication and support.

Sister Tylia Battle Jarmon continues the NHBW Summer Reading program. In celebration of 250 years of Independence (July 4, 1776), students from Old Center, Bellshire, Ida B. Wells, Shwab, Chadwell, and Hull-Jackson Elementary engaged in meaningful learning about freedom and history. After reading and responding to Juneteenth for Mazie and All Different Now, students identified key facts about July 4, 1776 and Juneteenth while exploring how freedom has changed over time. They compared the promises of liberty and democracy with the realities experienced by African Americans. Students also researched and highlighted the powerful contributions of African American women who helped expand rights and fairness for all. Through their work, scholars connected past struggles to present-day progress and explained why these contributions still matter today.

🚀 NHBW Literacy Committee Blasts Off with Summer Reading Program!
The National Hook-Up of Black Women, Inc., Nashville Chapter (NHBW) Literacy Committee officially kicked off its Summer Reading Program with an exciting, hands-on event at the Kirkpatrick Community Center.
📚 Inspiring the Next Generation
The event featured Sister Tasha Stevenson, who captivated young minds with a reading of the inspiring book, "Counting on Katherine: How Katherine Johnson Saved Apollo 13" by Helaine Becker.
This beautifully illustrated story shares the life of Katherine Johnson, the brilliant African American mathematician who bucked stereotypes and overcame racial and gender barriers to work at NASA. Her critical calculations quite literally saved the Apollo 13 mission and helped put the first humans on the moon, proving to young readers that mathematical thinking can change the world.
🧩 STEM in Action & Friendly Competition
Following the story, Sister Tasha brought the book's themes to life by engaging the participants in a hands-on Lego Space Shuttle building challenge, merging literacy with active STEM learning. To add to the excitement, attendees also had a chance to win Chick-fil-A gift cards!

The NHBW, Inc. Nashville Chapter was proud to support the Nashville Chapter of Charms, Inc. and other local organizations for the Unity Walk at Hartman Park! Before hitting the trail, attendees enjoyed a continental breakfast, networking, and a powerful panel discussion themed: "Increasing Awareness of Transitioning from Foster Care to Independent Living." The Nashville Chapter of Charms, Inc. also hosted a luggage drive, collecting new and gently used bags to support foster children as they transition into new homes. We truly appreciate the opportunity to support such a vital initiative by the Nashville Chapter of Charms, Inc.! 💙
